Tony Khan spoke to media Thursday afternoon and highlighted a number of storylines going into the show.
Khan opens the call with his exictement for the show Friday. Tonight’s RoH show Supercard Showdown will set up part of tomorrow’s card as well. Zayda Steel vs. Hyan will face off tonight, with the winner taking the final spot in the Survival of the Fittest match for Athena’s title.
Balancing Athena’s appearances on RoH and on AEW television is a fun exercise for Khan. She and Bandido, the Men’s RoH World Champion, are both in their respective brackets for the 2026 Owen Hart Tournament. Either losing their titles tomorrow would be a “monumental” shift for the promotion and their respective divisions.
RoH has had a few women’s matches main-event their respective shows. Tony Khan mentions that tonight’s show will determine Persephone’s replacement. She had to relinquish her spot for the Survival of the Fittest due to injury. She also will not be able to compete at Double or Nothing. Whether or not Athena wins tomorrow, she will be a part of the Owen Hart Women’s Tournament bracket. Tonight’s Showdown has a six-woman tag match that will spotlight the RoH women’s division.
Athena’s title defense will be an elimination-style match. That means that Athena has to be pinned to lose her title. This is the first women’s Survival of the Fittest match in Ring of Honor. Athena’s dynamics with Billie Starkz will be something to look out for during the match. There are a lot of variables and ways that Athena can lose her title and this only adds to the excitement of the match.
The Owen Hart Women’s Tournament does include Persephone and Sareee. Both are currently injured but their matches will be scheduled around their injuries.
Lacey Lane will be part of a six-woman tag match. Khan is excited for what she can do across both AEW and RoH shows.
There will be three women’s championships on the line tomorrow night. Deonna Purrazzo has been a stellar RoH Women’s Pure Champion. Her match tomorrow with Diamante is going to be a grudge match. RoH fans will be on the edge of their seats for this match. Look for the armbar to be featured prominently.
Red Velvet’s title reign has been excellent since coming back from injury. Viva Van has put together momentum, propelling her to a title shot Friday.
Lio Rush has been “Blackheart” in recent weeks. His character transformation has been a hit across both AEW and RoH. He’s brought back a number of great ideas after travelling and wrestling around the world. Khan was receptive to the different presentation.
Blake Christian has stepped up to the moment and has been building momentum over the past months. His win-loss record has been “stellar”, Khan says. From stepping in the ring with Will Ospreay to tomorrow’s ROH Men’s World Championship match against Bandido.
