Lady Frost made her professional wrestling debut in 2018. But watching her wrestle, you would think she’s been bodyslamming and grappling for decades. She recently sat down with SlamWrestling.net and spoke on her deciding to sign with MLW, the promotion’s women’s division, and much more:
Speaking on names like Shotzi Blackheart, Priscilla Kelly, Zamaya, and others, Lady Frost had warm words. “I think this division is willing to do whatever it takes to prove themselves, whether they’ve done it before or they’re doing it for the first time. I think there’s a lot to be said about the unknowns because they want to prove themselves to be known as something as a fierce competitor.”
Lady Frost herself has come a long way from her professional wrestling debut. “My first match was in front of about 13,000 people and it was on live television. So you want to talk about nerves?”
Lady Frost, then known as Jamie Frost, debuted on Monday Night Raw, losing to Asuka in short order but turning the right heads in the process. “At that time, I was kind of unaware of what pro wrestling entailed. It was just show up and do what I’m asked, which is usually what I’m good at.”
As someone who’s already been in many of the top North American wrestling promotions, Lady Frost has gained an immense amount of knowledge and credits a number of people for coaching her.
“I think when you spend time anywhere, there’s an experience to be had and something to learn. I think in every single locker room there are veterans and people that take the time to break down, whether it be psychology or footwork or timing.”
“I’m one to ask everyone about everything. And I have had plenty of conversations with Will [Ospreay], but there are people like J.D. Drake that helped me a ton in AEW. You wouldn’t think that our styles really have anything to do with each other, but that’s what makes you comprehend an actual structure of a wrestling match, right?”
“What is your why? What is your intent? It’s just not to get a cool move off, right? So I had a lot of very cool mentors everywhere I go, even in independent locker rooms. Right, people that have been doing this for 15-20, years, so I always try to take away what I can [from them]. We had great coaches in AEW, guys like Jerry Lynn, and they’re always willing to share their experience. So that was definitely a huge takeaway in the learning department for me.”
Another place that has shown Lady Frost a lot about the industry is Mexico, where she’s been able to compete with CMLL.
“I feel like that was a style that I gravitated towards naturally. I trained in that style. You’re working on a different side of the body. You’re working at a different pace. You’re working at a different altitude. It’s a very grueling schedule when you go. You’re working multiple times a week, six shows in seven days.”
The grueling schedule doesn’t take away from the experience of being in Mexico.
“There’s always something to enjoy about wrestling in a different place.”
For Lady Frost though, that place is MLW. She has one goal and she makes it clear. “The MLW Women’s Championship is at the front right now.”
Beyond that, she hopes to see even more around the world. “Going to Japan, back to Mexico is obviously a goal, and then, furthermore, it’s just get to other countries and reach as many people as I can.”
Who knows where Lady Frost might bring the chill to next?
