There are many who think Taya Valkyrie is not utilized enough in AEW. Many others can be added to that list; it’s a crowded area and there isn’t much rotation, so some will be in shadow.
There are many ways to deal with this. Some include:
- Work your way to main event status
- Ask for your release
- Don’t ask for your release but grouse about it
- Get more eyes on your product
And that last point is about putting more eyes on you. In this reality TV world, its often you that gets sold, not what you can do. And Taya Valkyrie has certainly placed some eyes on herself by releasing her own Christmas tune, titled “L.A. Christmas.”
But “L.A. Christmas” isn’t all halls decked with holly and a reindeer with a vermillion schnozz. This is, as the lyrics tell us, about “Gingerbread bikinis… platinum gifts and … L.A. Christmas, bitch.” The elves have all been at the egg nog and Mrs. Claus has run for the shelter of Santa’s little helper – yes, this is as fake as the “snow at The Grove”, but then some people like to put the X into Xmas…
And so does this track.
It starts with a very chart, cloying and back-of-the-mouth vocal but also with a singsong Yuletide round the tree sweetness.
There’s soon a rather off the peg bright dance shuffle and growling bass though, only for the singsong chart chatter to hit again in the chorus.
They double down on it with an almost nursery rhyme “la la la” and a wistful break to slow remembrance with harmonies and a slow pushing in of that beat and those delivered right to your face la la la’s.
Or L.A., if you prefer. This song will not win a Grammy. It isn’t made for that. It’s almost execrable, but for the following of an R ‘n’ B chart Pop template. What this song has is a sort of vertical integration.
That’s usually used in business, I know, to describe a company that owns or produces several of its areas, like Netflix making its own shows, but I like to use it to describe a product which hits several areas at once. This may sound unusual, but this song exists so the video can be made.

That video is so important for Taya and it’s a play against Christmas type. Taya might be dressed as Santa, but never did Saint Nick have his decolletage on display so willingly (a little ankle maybe). Pneumatic Taya cavorting with bare-chested male dancers and energetic pole dancers around a pool, which becomes a foam party.
Strangely, her dance moves are a bit clunky, OK when behind the decks throwing hands, but her twerking is more of a twer – she can’t seem to really get into it, to find her groove.
And what’s what that I spot under the tree? A box from a famous fashion house? Shown twice? Why yes, which is perhaps another reason to make the video …
Taya is delighted with the release:

and that excitement is lovely.
Perhaps that delight is bringing the Christmas spirit back. This song might be ordinary, the video might not mean much, but it’s Taya’s new calling card.
She may not be on Santa’s naughty list, but what about Tony Khan’s?
