Many familiar faces turned up at GCW’s Dream On show this afternoon.
The event had a very interesting look as it was coming from a “retail and entertainment” complex in New Jersey called American Dream this afternoon. In my day we called it a shopping mall. The ring was set up in an open area of the mall with really small pads barely covering the floor. That shows you how hardcore their talent is. They don’t need no stinking mats.
Hall of Famer Kurt Angle kicked off the show. Angle said that New Jersey has some of the greatest wrestling fans in the entire world. Angle got the crowd revved up for the show…until Mick Foley’s music played. Foley entered from the crowd. Angle bowed to him and handed him the microphone. The two legends hugged in the middle of the ring.
Mick Foley cut one of Dusty Rhodes’ most famous promos about “doing hard times”.
Blue Pain decided to make an appearance. Foley and Angle didn’t know what to make of him.
“Dude, you’ve got some explaining to do,” said Foley.
Pain did Kane’s firework cue but nothing happened.
Foley called Pain a “loser” and said he should be playing for The Giants.
“I don’t know what you are doing here but you are way out of your league. Why don’t you go out with the fans and sit with them?” Angle asked Pain.
Pain grabbed Angle by the throat. Foley gave him a shot to the head. Foley treated Pain to Mr. Socco and Angle put him in the ankle lock.
Broski Jimmy LLoyd came to the ring calling himself the “Deathmatch Prince”. He demanded respect from the audience. He called American Dream a dump.
Ricky Starks’ music begins to play. Casually leaning on the railing, Starks came down on an escalator holding a Louis Vuitton shopping bag. On the way down, he slaps a kids’ hand who is going up on the opposite side of the escalator.
The crowd chants…Holy s–t! Holy s–t!
“What the hell are YOU doing here? Shouldn’t you be up the street and in catering? If you know what’s best for you, you’d get the hell out of here and go back to The Prudential Center,” bellows Lloyd referring to AEW’s Full Gear show tonight.
Starks DDTs LLoyd without saying a word.
The crowd starts cheering for Starks.
“I think everyone wants a statement from Ricky Starks. Well, the statement is I am standing right here in the middle of GCW ring and I’ve got a lot of things I want to get off of my chest,” he said.
Starks said fans have proven him wrong. They have accepted ‘Absolute’ Ricky Starks.
“Passion runs through my blood and I will be damned if I sit at home and I get frozen out! I will be damned if I sit at home and let my career dwindle at 34 years-old! I am healthy. I am god damn good looking and best of all I am a generational superstar! I do what I want! I say what I want! I dress how I want. If you don’t like that you can kiss my black ass!” declared Starks.
He said that he is returning to where he began his career, the very beginning: GCW.
“Here is a gentle reminder, Jimmy. I am the man! I am always going to be the man! And most importantly, I am ‘Absolute’ f—–g Ricky Starks!” he said tossing the microphone.
Jimmy tried to sideswipe Starks. Starks speared him before leaving through the crowd.
After Ricky Starks’ appearance. Matt Cardona came down to the ring. He is pissed that fans wanted to see Ricky Starks over him. The crowd starts rudely telling him to shut his trap. Cardona called Starks a coward for coming out when Cardona was in the back and leaving before Cardona came to the ring. Cardona says he has no sympathy for Starks because he got paid to sit home for months and months.
“I have been working my ass off for five years!” says Cardona calling himself “The Gatekeeper”.
Matt Cardona goes to leave but Manders comes out. JBL showed up during their match taking Manders out with a Clothesline From Hell after Broski pulled the official to the floor and punched him in the face.
In the main event it was Mance Warner defending his GCW World Championship against Effy. It was Effy’s last time he could challenge Warner for the title. It didn’t take long for the plunder to become involved. Warner leapt off a chair to DDT Effy through a door propped up in a corner breaking it in half. Warner then smashed a steel chair over Effy’s back. Warner put a door between two steel chairs. Warner choked out Effy with his wrist tape. Effy though gave Warner a Razor’s Edge through that bridged table and then speared him for a two count. Effy sets up the chairs back to back but it was Effy himself who got chokeslammed onto the chairs.
Warner places four chairs facing one another. He cannot hoist Effy up though. Effy slams Warner through the chairs for a two count. Effy kicks out of a piledriver. Effy absorbs a running clothesline and a knee strike kicking out at just one. Sack Rider. Spear. Warner kicks out at two. The crowd begins cheering for Effy. Effy spears him again for yet another two count.
A frustrated Effy begins piling chairs and broken doors in the middle of the ring. As he is set to slam Warner on the plunder Allie Katch hits Effy with a steel chair. Effy stands up to her ripping the chair out of her hands. Effy takes her by the hair slapping her face. Warner punches Effy in the “lower abdomen” from behind. Warner DDTs Effy.
Katch then labels Warner with the steel chair. Katch piledrives the official. She stands with the GCW World Heavyweight Championship as show ends.
