Dynamite: Joe defends the AEW Championship; A Shoe is Thrown and the Bucks Talk…

Greetings and salutations! Its another episode of Dynamite and this week on the one-year anniversary of Jay Briscoe’s passing we have AEW World Heavyweight champion, Samoa Joe having his first title defense against HOOK. We will also hear from The Young Bucks as they seem to have answered the call to face Sting in his final match ever. With so much on the go, let’s get straight into the action.


The show starts with a video package hyping the main event of AEW World Champion Samoa Joe and HOOK


TNT Championship: Christian Cage (c) (with Killswitch and Nick Wayne) VS Dustin Rhodes


The match starts and Christian has the early advantage, but Rhodes comes back with a Scoop Slam, which causes Cage to go outside for a breather. Rhodes slams Cage into the barricade and slams him onto the commentary table. Back in the ring, Rhodes has the momentum on his side until Cage comes back and ends up sending Rhodes outside and follows that up with a dive. Rhodes hits a Destroyer for a 2-count. Cage is right back in it as he gets Rhodes down and uses the rope to choke him.

Cage then snaps Rhodes’ neck on the ropes and hits a Frog Splash for a 2-count. Cage has had it and gets the TNT championship, but the ref stops him from using it. With this minor distraction, and as Rhodes has Cage in a small package,  Wayne sneaks in and tips the roll-up allowing Cage to be on top for the rollup pin. Rhodes kicks out and comes back with a flurry of offense culminating with the Unnatural Kick. Rhodes hits a Cross-Rhodes for a 2-count. Wayne interferes again, and this time Killswitch is in to attack Rhodes, but Rhodes hits a Destroyer on Wayne on the outside. Cage hits a Spear and not one, but two Killswitch’s for the win.

Winner and still TNT Champion: Christian Cage


In an interview, Swerve Strickland reiterates the fact that he he has his eyes on the main event. He doesn’t care who wins tonight, he wants the AEW Heavyweight championship. He says he is the most dangerous man coming for the belt and the most coveted prize in the industry. Strickland is asked about Page and he gives Page some praise but says that Page can’t beat him so he has no reason to fight him again.

Chris Jericho is asked about losing his Tag Title chance at Battle of the Belts IX. He says that Guevara is hurt, so he is not there tonight. Jericho blames Powerhouse Hobbs and Konosuke Takeshita and says he wants revenge. Matt Sydal interrupts and challenges Jericho to a match. He accepts and the match will happen at AEW Rampage.


Orange Cassidy & Trent Beretta (with Chuck Taylor) VS Penta El Zero Miedo & Komander (with Rey Fenix & Alex Abrahantes)


Cassidy and Penta start things off. Penta with a kick. Trent and Komander are in. Komander flies, as he always does and hits a dive. Trent comes right back and does a Half-and-Half Suplex. Cassidy and Trent cut the ring in half and keep Komander on their half. The match spills outside and Trent sends Komander into the barricade and keeps him grounded. Cassidy and Trent with a Double Suplex. Komander tries to come back and sends Trent over the ropes and is able to get the hot tag to Penta. Penta clears house.

Penta with a hard kick to Trent, then moments later on the outside of the ring, Komander dives onto him at ringside. Cassidy is in the ring and Penta hits a Made in Japan for a nearfall.  Cassidy hits a DDT and brings Trent back in the match. Penta hits a Destroyer on Trent, followed by Komander diving off the ropes and getting a 2-count. Trent hits Komander with a Knee Strike, Penta with a Knee Strike on Trent. Cassidy is in and hits Penta with the Beach Break, followed by an Orange Punch on Komander which gives Trent the pin and the win for his team!

Winner: Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy

After the match, Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, and Mike Bennett storm the ring and Strong says Cassidy has been a fighting champion, but thinks he’s afraid since he was in a tag match just now. Strong says the title belongs to him, and he’s here to make Cassidy accept that. Strong challenges, and Cassidy accepts, but Strong says he’ll have to wait until AEW Revolution.

Hangman Page says nobody cared more about the AEW World Championship more than him, and when he gets it back, he will hold it close. He says that he doesn’t think of Swevre Strickland is response to what Swerve said earlier.


A Briscoe Tribute….


Mark Briscoe comes to the stage on the anniversary of Jay Briscoe’s death. He says his oldest niece was told she would never walk again, but the two girls come out. Mark says “We Dem Boys”, we will never stop, and we’re never going anywhere. Mark thanks everyone for their continued support.


Renee Chats with the Young Bucks


Renee Paquette is with the Young Bucks. They want to be called Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, as they are EVPs, and need to be taken serious. The Bucks maintain that they are there and would do anything to protect what they built. Matthew reflects on the short history of AEW and says it was old with the old and in with the new. Matthew does indeed admit that somewhere in the journey, the culture changed and they leaned too much on yesterday. He doesn’t blame Sting as he calls him a model employee, but it’s time to say goodbye to Sting and everyone like him.


ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship: Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) (with Prince Nana) VS Bullet Club Gold (Jay White, Austin Gunn & Colten Gunn)


White and Liona go at it with Liona getting the upperhand on White. Kaun is out and he and Liona double-team White. The Gunns are in and they swing the momentum to their end. Cage is in the match and he hits Austin with a kick, followed by a German Suplex. Mogul Embassy isolate Austin Gunn from his team and split the ring in half. Each member of the Mogul Embassy has their moment with Austin, until Austin is able to escape and get the hot tag ot his brother, Colten. Colten clears house, but Mogul Embassy come back and dominate the match. the champions take control again. White tags in and takes it to Kaun. White with some chops and then an Uranage. Cage with a Lariat to White, but the Gunns take out Cage. Kaun then takes out the Gunn’s with a Double Dropkick. Prince Nana then grabs White’s foot and Liona slams and drops him for a 2-count. The ref is distracted and Nana gets the title, but Anthony Bowens stops Nana. In the ring, White hits the Blade Runner and pins Kaun for the win.

Winners: and new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions: Bullet Club Gold

The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn stare down Bullet Club Gold after the match….


Adam Cole is with Wardlow and says he has not even scratched the surface of what he is capable of. Cole says that Wardlow will keep winning until he has the World Title…


Deonna Purrazzo VS Anna Jay


AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm joins the commentary team. Purrazzo gets things started and has the control of the match until the match spills to the apron. While on the Apron, Jay gets control and lands a Neckbreaker on the ropes. Jay maintains control and hits a Snap Suplex. Purrazzo comes back and kicks Jay for a bit, but Jay with a sneaky roll up for a 2-count. Purrazzo with a Big Boot, but Jay responds with an Axe Kick, followed by a Backstabber, but Purrazzo kicks out at 2. Purrazo then finds her opening and takes Jay down to lock in Venus de Milo, causing Jay to tap.

Winner: Deonna Purrazzo

After the match, Renee Paquette is in the ring and chats with Purrazzo. Purrazzo says that her and Storm used to be close, and used to be like sisters but things have changed a lot. Purrazzo then says that she has changed as well. Purrazzo says Storm hasn’t met the most technical women’s wrestler in the world. Storm is in to talk and says Purrazzo is a technically tanned hag. Luther carries Storm out and Mariah May throws a shoe at Purrazzo.


Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin) VS Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen)


Quen and Dante go at it until Private Party double-teams Dante. Kassidy is in and hits a Modified Cutter on Darius. They double-team Dante. Eventually, Quen and Kassidy isolate Dante from his partner, but this doesn’t last too long as Dante slams Quen and gets the hot tag to Darius. Darius clears house and Top Flight controls the match again. Quen tags in and dives onto Darius, followed by him diving over the ropes onto Dante and hits Darius with another dive. He dives onto Darius again. Literally, all the dives at this point. Quen with a 450 Splash for a 2-count. Top Flight hits Quen with double team moves. Darius with a kick, but Quen takes him down with a Dropkick. Everyone starts diving again until Private Party hits Gin and Juice on Dante. Quen pins Darius and holds onto the ropes for the win.

Winner: Private Party

After the match, Action Andretti gets in the face of Private Party because Top Flight is upset about the way the match ended.


Darby Allin and Sting chat about the the Young Bucks. Allin says he wants Sting’s story to end with he and Sting as Tag Team Champions.


AEW World Championship: Samoa Joe (c) vs. HOOK

HOOK gets things started and the match ends up outside. HOOK jumps from the barricade onto Joe. Joe gets HOOK backs in the ring and connects with a Back Elbow. Joe with all the offense util HOOK comes back, but this doesn’t last long at all as the match spills outside to ringside again. Joe with the control and Joe slams HOOK through the broadcast table right in front of Taz. Joe with a Powerbomb right on the apron that leaves HOOK in pain.

The ringside doctor checks on HOOK, but HOOK powers through and slowly makes his way into the ring. Joe hits a Snap Powerslam, followed by a Death Valley Driver for a 2-count. Joe continues the offense with a Muscle Buster for a 1-count this time. HOOK rallies back and ends up Suplexing Joe over his head. HOOK is looking to end it with the Redrum, but Joe blocks it and locks in the Coquina Clutch. The ref is checking on HOOK and checks the arm. HOOK’s arm falls three times, and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner and still AEW World Champion: Samoa Joe

HOOK slowly gets back up and talks trash to Joe. Joe attacks him and hits a Muscle Buster. HOOK gets up again and begs for more. Before Joe can do more damage, Hangman Adam Page is out and hits the ring, but Joe leaves. Page and Joe stare down. Swerve Strickland is shown in the crowd, and he watches on. Page checks on HOOK and helps him up. HOOK walks to the back…
