AEW Dynamite: Christian Cage returns

With only a handful of PPV events during the year, it really means that anything can happen on Dynamite. Who would have thought that the Gunns would beat the Acclaimed for the tag team belts last week? Unfortunately, the Acclaimed won’t get a chance to reclaim those title tonight. They’re booked in an eight man tag with Orange Cassidy, but Billy Gunn will be in action. Speaking of action, let’s get right to it.


The Acclaimed and Orange Cassidy w/Danhausen vs. Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett, Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt


Jeff Jarrett is wrestling in honor of his father, Jerry Jarrett, who passed away on Tuesday. Not long after Billy Gunn tags in, the newly crowned champs and his sons, walk out on stage to take in the action. They mocked the Acclaimed from the top of the ramp. They don’t affect the match, though. Sonjay Dutt gets an unwanted tag. He gets hit with Scissor me Timbers and Bowens covers him for the pin.

Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Rush and Preston Vance w/Jose the Assistant – Tornado Tag Match


Rush and Vance jump Mox and Castagnoli as they walk through the crowd on their way to the ring. It takes a commercial break to finally get things under control and the match is started. Mox chops Vance into the corner and then stomps him. Rush rolls into the ring, pulling Mox away. The two double team Moxley. Preston hits a spinebuster and Rush follows with a drop kick. Claudio enters the ring, sending Rush to the floor and catches Vance with a back elbow. He slams Vance to the mat as Jon grabs a couple of chairs. Mox the takes out Rush on the floor with a clothesline. He then catapults him into barrier. Castagnoli hits Vance with a bulldog and Hangman Adam Page watches from the back. Rush tries to fight both men, but gets booted to the floor. Mox follows with a suicide dive. He then gets speared off the apron by Vance and all four men are down on the floor. Vance whips Cluadio into the barrier and then clubs him with chair. Rush leaves him buried under a table.

After a commercial break, Mox and Rush are trading blows in the middle of the ring. Mox is busted open, but is able to knock Rush from the ring. Vance almost steals a pin and then goes to work on Mox with a chain wrapped around his fist. Claudio emerges from under the table and cleans house. He gets ahold of the chain and beats Preston into the corner with it. He punches and bloodied Vance and takes him for a swing. Rush saves the match by breaking the pin with a drop kick. Castagnoli hits Rush with uppercuts and Mox catches him with a cutter. A discuss lariat fells Vance, but he is still able to kick out. Rush with a German suplex to Mox as Claudio hits Vance with one. Castagnoli looks for the Neutralizer, but is clubbed over the back with a chair by Jose. Wheeler Yuta runs down and takes out Jose, battering him up the ramp.

Rush sends Claudio into the turnbuckle with a belly to belly suplex. He answers with a spear, but Vance breaks the pin. Rush launches himself over the ropes into an uppercut. Vance tries to flip Mox over the top rope with the chain, but Mox reverses it. He chokes Vance with the chain, until Preston is out. The ref calls for the bell.

Winners via submission: Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli


Backstage, Adam Page is jumped by Kip Sabian, the Butcher and the Blade. The Dark Order run them off to make the save.

Wardlow tells Jim Ross about his childhood and his father. He lost his father to cancer as he started his wrestling journey. Samoa Joe knew that Wardlow has grown his hair out as a tribute to his father and Joe took that from him.


Josh Woods w/Tony Nese and Smart Mark Sterling vs. Mark Briscoe


The two lock up. Briscoe swing wildly on a chop and misses. A shoulder block sends Woods to the ring. Nese yanks Briscoe from the ring. The Lucha Brothers run down and send Nese to the back. Briscoe chops away at Woods, but a distraction from Sterling allows Woods to hit a jawbreaker and follow with an exploder. A knee strike sends Woods to the floor. Briscoe launches himself over the top rope to cannonball Woods. Briscoe with a powerbomb, but Woods kicks out. Woods hits Pure Chaos, but Briscoe kicks out. Mark hits a Death Valley Driver and follows with the Froggy Bow. He covers and gets the win.

Adam Cole tells Renee Paquette that he is appreciating the little things. He is so close to getting back in the ring. He knows he has to be fully prepare when he comes back, but won’t let us know who he wants to face when he returns.

The champ, MJF, makes his way to the ring for a contractually obligated appearance. It angers the champ that the people love Bryan Danielson. Not too long ago, the people loved him. He calls the people fickle little monsters, so he turned his back on them before they could turn on him. MJF is honest about himself, but Danielson hasn’t been. MJF hates him because he has the people convinced that he is better than him. The only way to become best in world is to be the AEW World Champion and Danielson has never done that. MJF knows that Danielson is going to put him through the hardest match of his life, but after 60 minutes he will be victorious. MJF brings out the Fallen Angel, Christopher Daniels. He has been on of Danielson’s longest rivals.

Daniels makes his way to the ring. MJF asks him to tell the truth about Danielson. Full disclosure, though, MJF paid him a lot of money to come out and bury Danielson. Daniels says he isn’t that guy and Bryan will knock him into the dirt. Christopher talks of facing Danielson and knowing he would be great. Bryan Danielson is what MJF wishes he could be. Daniels calls MJF a fraud. The champ knocks the microphone out of his hand. Daniels tries to walk away. MJF grabs him by the arm. Daniels slaps the champ. MJF kicks him in the groin and locks in the Salt of the Earth armbar. Bryan Danielson runs down and chases the champ off.


Jungle Boy Jack Perry vs. The Machine Brian Cage w/Prince Nana


Cage runs into a boot and gets kicked to the floor. Perry hits two suicide dives, but gets caught on the third and Cage plants him onto the floor. Cage wants a powerbomb, but Perry is able to fight out of it. Cage runs into a drop kick. Perry with a back elbow, but gets caught on a twisting cross body. Cage with a rib breaker and a reverse Alabama slam. Cage bridges out of a pin and power bombs Jungle Boy into the turnbuckle. Perry kicks Cage on the ropes and hits a stomp. He follows with a diving splash, but only gets a two count. Perry hits a Death Valley Driver and Cage kicks out again. JB hits a crucifix bomb and follows with a running strike to the back of the head. Perry covers and gets the three count.

Winner via pinfall: Jungle Boy Jack Perry


After the match, Christian Cage emerges on stage. Perry goes right after him, but Cage maces him. Christian takes off his arm sling. He’s healthy and hits Perry with the Kill Switch on the ramp.

The Gunns will defend their belts in a triple threat match at Revolution. They will face the winners of Casino Battle Royal and then a Revolution battle royal. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! The Acclaimed are cashing in their rematch clause and that match at Revolution will now be a four way dance.

Top Flight wants a rematch with the Elite.


Kip Sabian w/Penelope Ford vs. Hangman Adam Page


Page is not a happy camper and immediately decks Sabian. Kip mounts sone offense, springboarding off the ropes to take out Page on the floor. The two fight on the floor, with Sabian being whipped into the barrier. Page hits a pop up powerbomb in the ring, but it only nets a two count. Page with a lariat and hits Dead Eye. He covers and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Hangman Adam Page


The Blackpool Combat Club makes their way to the ring after the bell. They face Page in the ring. Mox tells him they are done. Jon has beaten him and has his number. He has his respect, but he doesn’t fear him. There’s no chance that Page will ever beat him again. Let it go.

Page isn’t happy with the last match’s result. And he doesn’t think Mox is happy with it, either. This ends at Revolution. Mox doesn’t think Page has any friends. Cue the Dark Order, or what’s left of them. Evil Uno, Alex Reynold and John Silver hit the ring. Page doesn’t want Uno there, but Uno persists. Uno tells Mox he isn’t afraid of him.

Mox tells Page Revolution Texas Death Match.

Chris Jericho tells Tony Schiavone that he will not face Ricky Starks ever again. Daniel Garcia will face Starks and Garcia is going to expose him as a fraud.

Stokely Hathaway wants justice after Hook broke his arm. He wants him fired.


Toni Storm w/Saraya vs. Ruby Soho vs. Dr. Britt Baker, DMD w/Jamie Hayter


Before the match, Saraya and Toni threaten to spray paint a “fan” in the front row. Baker takes down Ruby with a sling blade, but then gets yanked out of the ring by Storm. Soho catches a boot and get whipped into the ropes, where she hits Baker with a hip attack.

After a commercial break, Baker hits a Storm with a sling blade. She follows with a neck breaker on Storm as Ruby is hit with a DDT. Saraya grabs Baker by the boot, allowing Storm to hit a German suplex. Soho trips Storm looking for a hip attack. Baker hits Ruby with the double underhook, but Toni breaks up the pin. Baker rolls up Storm as Toni hits Soho with a German suplex.  Baker and Storm trade blows in the middle of the ring. Baker hits the swinging neck breaker on Storm, but only gets a two count. Ruby goes up top, misses the stomp and takes a punch from Storm, who locks in the Texas Clover leaf. Baker applies the lockjaw on Ruby. Saraya kicks Baker to break the hold. Storm hits Jamie Hayter with a breaker on the floor. Saraya spray paints Storm to imprint it on Baker with a hip attack. She connects. Ruby knocks Storm from the ring into Saraya and rolls up Baker to get the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Ruby Soho


After the match, Jamie Hayter and Saraya try to get her to pick aside. That’s the show. See you in seven.

If you missed Dynamite tonight you didn’t miss much. The Mark Briscoe match is worth checking out along with the Tornado Tag Team match with the Blackpool Combat Club. The show needs to get better heading into Revolution in March.
