Dynamite: Jericho retains title shot

This summer is flying by; we are only a month away from AEW All Out. That being said, Battle of the Belts 3 is coming up this Saturday. Dynamite has some work to do, so let’s get right into the action.


Orange Cassidy vs. Jay Lethal w/Sonjay Dutt and Satnim Singh


Jay Lethal wants to end this match early, going for the Lethal Injection. Cassidy ducks the first attempt and then counters a second attempt with a drop kick to the back. The fight spills to the floor and Orange “kicks” Lethal up the ramp. Jay crawls away, taking refuge in the shadow on Satnim. Trent Barretta walks out on stage on Chuck Taylor’s shoulders, trying to match Satnim’s height. Sonjay stops Singh from doing something bad to the Best Friends.

In the ring, Lethal with a dragon screw and then slams Cassidy into the ring steps. Jay crushes Cassidy’s foot in between the ring steps and ring. Lethal wants the Figure Four, but Orange is able to fight him off. Cassidy gets caught up top. Lethal with a dragon screw off the top and locks in the Figure Four. Cassidy is able to roll to the ropes to break the hold. Lethal picks Orange up for a vertical suplex, but Cassidy counters with Stundog Millionaire. Lethal goes up top, but Orange rolls to the opposite corner. He poses on the mat, enraging Lethal. Cassidy with the diving DDT off the top rope. He follows with another DDT, but can only get a two count. Cassidy wants the Orange Punch, but his knee gives out. Lethal picks up Cassidy, but Orange counters with the Beach Break. Lethal ducks the Orange Punch and kicks Cassidy in the knee. Jay hits the Lethal Injection and covers to get the win.

After the match, Dutt wants Lethal’s thoughts on Wardlow. Jay wants him to come out to watch him break Cassidy’s leg. The Best Friends make the save, but Wardlow is right behind them. Lethal clears out of the ring. Dutt challenges Wardlow to a match against Lethal at Battle of the Belts 3. Wardlow doesn’t care where or when he whoops on Lethal.

Adam Cole is back, BAY BAY! He brings the Undisputed Elite with him to the ring. It’s story time with Adam Cole. He does have some unfortunate news; he still isn’t medically cleared. Cole has had some time to think and he has some things that need to be fixed. Cole talks of loyalty. He brings up the trios tournament. He wants nothing more than for the Undisputed Elite to win that tournament. Cole tells the Bucks they can’t compete if they don’t choose Bobby Fish. Actually, they won’t be physically able to compete. Fish and O’Reilly jump Nick and Matt. Cole stomps away at Matt as Nick is forced to watch. They put a chair around Matt’s neck. Hangman Adam Page runs down and makes the save with a lead pipe in hand. Hangman turns to face the Bucks. He offers his hand and the Bucks accept.

Backstage, Jon Moxley talks about facing the last survivor of the Hart Dungeon or the first member of the Blackpool Combat Club. Moxley doesn’t care who he faces next week. When he gets into the ring, he is trying to hurt his opponent. When the BBC is done, they will make the Hart Dungeon look like a day care. Whoever shows up next week better be ready.

Earlier today, Christian Cage nearly got run over by Jungle Boy in the loading dock. Security was able to hold Jungle Boy back.


Dr. Britt Baker DMD and Jamie Hayter w/Rebel vs. Toni Storm and Thunder Rosa


Baker locks in a cross face. Rosa is able to roll out of it and hits a suplex. Hayter gets the tag, only to get trapped in the opposite corner. ThunderStorm take turn dishes out punishment. Hayter whips Rosa to the ropes, where Baker hits her with a cheap shot from the apron. Rosa is able to get the tag to Storm after hitting Hayter with a chin breaker. Storm flies in with a cross body. She takes out Rebel on the floor and hits another high cross body on Hayter. Jamie blocks a double team suplex and counters with a suplex to Storm and Rosa. Baker gets the tag and runs into a Death Valley Driver. Rosa picks her up as Storm goes up top. Rebel provides a distraction, allowing Baker to rake the eyes of Rosa and toss her from the ring. Baker hits Storm with an Avalanche Air Raid Crash. Hayter tags in, hitting a sliding lariat. Rosa breaks the pin. Rosa and Baker trade slaps in the middle of the ring. Baker with an Air Raid Crash. Storm with a DDT to Baker. Baker and Hayter take a German suplex. Storm with hip attacks. Baker pulls Rosa in front and Storm hits her by mistake. Hayter with a lariat to Storm and covers to get the pin.

Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti are getting married and won’t be here tonight. Eddie Kingston doesn’t care. He wants Sammy though. He has a receipt coming.

Taz didn’t know that Hobbs was going to turn on Ricky Starks. As of this moment Team Taz is done.


Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Ren Jones


Hobbs crushes Jones in the corner with a splash and then hits him with a leaping Oklahoma Stampede. He makes the cover with his knee and gets the three count.

Ricky Starks hits the ring, throwing haymakers. Hobbs stops him cold with a spine buster and rolls out of the ring.

The Redeemer needs to figure out what the messengers that are being sent for him actually mean.

Darby Allin and Brody King will face off in a coffin match next week.


Matt Hardy vs. Christian Cage


Hardy shoulders Cage into the corner. Cage answer back with rights and beats him down in the corner. Matt knocks Cage off the top turnbuckle, sending him crashing off the apron to the floor.  Matt slams Cage face first into the turnbuckle, repeatedly. He follows with a powerbomb. Cage rolls to the floor. He slams Matt into the ring steps and then crushes him with a knee strike.

After a commercial break, Hardy with a superplex. Cage kicks out of the pin at two. Hardy with a back body drop and follows with a diving elbow drop. Cage kicks out again. Hardy blocks the Kill Switch. Cage with a diving head butt and Hardy kicks out of the pin. Cage misses a punch from the floor and runs into the Side Effect. Hardy with a second Side Effect on the apron. Hardy grabs a table. Christian dodges the elbow drop and Hardy crashes through the table to the floor. Cage hits the Kill Switch in the middle of the ring and covers to get the pin.

After the match, Christian grabs a couple of chairs. He sets Matt up for the Con-chair-to. Luchasaurus walks out on stage. It’s a distraction, as Jungle Boy hits the ring from the crowd. He chases Cage off, who escapes into the crowd.

Daniel Garcia calls his win over Brian Danielson the biggest win in AEW history. Garcia is ready for him whenever he comes back.

All Ego Ethan Page is in the ring and he has a question. Why? Why? Why isn’t he getting any respect? Why isn’t he on TV every week? Why doesn’t he have an action figure. Ethan Page deserves better. He doesn’t see Stokely Hathaway enter the ring. Stokely lets him rant. Page finally sees him and Hathaway would like a word. He whispers something in his ear and hands him his card. Page walks up the ramp with him.

Tony Schiavone is with Matt Menard, Angelo Parker and Anna Jay. They know Jericho will win tonight. Anna cuts a promo about herself and the chokes out one of the AEW staff.


Austin and Colton Gunn w/Billy Gunn vs. The Acclaimed – Dumpster Match


The only way to win this match is to shove your opponents in a dumpster and close the lid. Before the bell, Anthony Bowens and Max Caster take out Billy Gunn with a trash can. They keep Austin and Colton at bay so they rap. Austin and Colton cut them off, slamming Max into the side of the dumpster. Bowens reverses a suplex and tosses Austin into the ring. The bell rings and this match is under way. Bowens nearly falls into the dumpster and gets beaten with the lid. The Gunns pick up Bowens and slam him into the dumpster. Caster is back body dropped into the dumpster, but Bowens prevent the Gunns from closing the lid. Caster smacks him with a sheet pan.

Bowens and Austin fight atop the dumpster. Bowens gets thrown onto several trash cans. Austin then saves Colton from getting beat down by Max. The Gunns set up a table on the stage. Caster eats a suplex on the steel stage. Bowens takes a Colt 45 on the top of the ramp. Bowens is placed on the table as Austin Gunn climbs the entrance tunnel. Bowens hits Colton with a trash can, as Caster sneaks up on Austin atop the tunnel. Mex throws Austin into a dumpster on the stage. Colton is set up on the table and Max hits him with the Mic drop. Colton is tossed into the dumpster. They closes the lid and the match is over.

Winners: The Acclaimed


After the bell, Caster and Bowens push the dumpster off the side of the stage; crashing to the floor.


Wheeler Yuta w/Claudio Castagnoli vs. “The Wizard” Chris Jericho w/Matt Menard and Angelo Parker


Wheeler hits Jericho in his injured nose, taking the fight to him. Jericho rolls out of the ring, but Yuta gives chase. He whips Jericho into the barricade, before rolling him back iinto the ring. Angelo Parker gets caught grabbing Yuta by the leg and tosses both him and Menard out. Jericho attempts a roll up, but Yuta quickly kicks out. Jericho cuts Wheeler down on the top turnbuckle.

After a commercial break, Yuta hits Jericho with shots the face and follows with an atomic drop. He elbows Jericho in the corner and follows with a forearm off the top. The two collide on cross body blocks and then trade slaps from their knees. Yuta with a German suplex and holds on. He hits another one and then gets the hat trick. Wheeler with a fourth suplex and bridges the fifth into a pin. Jericho kicks out. He rolls through and counters into the  Walls of Jericho. Wheeler is able to crawl to the ropes. Jericho gets in the ref’s face. Yuta sends him to the floor and connects with a suicide dive. Wheeler with a second suicide dive and follows with a third. Jericho kicks out after a flying cross body. He hits Wheeler with a back breaker. Yuta blocks the Lionsault and goes up top. Jericho catches Yuta coming off the top with double knees. Yuta kicks out of the pin.  Jericho with the hammer and anvil elbows, but Wheeler breaks free by grabbing Jericho’s nose. Yuta locks in a stretch. Jericho grabs his bat, but the ref pulls it away. Jericho uses the momentary distraction to hit Wheeler with a low blow. Yuta rolls through the pin and looks for the Seatbelt. Jericho counters into the Walls of Jericho. Wheeler taps out.

Winner via submission: Chris Jericho


Jericho refuses the break the hold. Jon Moxley hits the ring, forcing Jericho to break the hold. He chases off the Wizard. Jericho grabs a microphone letting Mox know that next week he will be facing “Lionheart” Chris Jericho. See you in seven!

The Schottenstein Center, Columbus, Ohio

AEW just keeps churning out entertaining Dynamites. The women’s tag team match is worth checking out, but the show really hit it’s stride in the second hour. The Acclaimed continue their rise by dispatching the Gunns in a dumpster match. While Chris Jericho and Wheeler Yuta put on a clinic in the main event, with Yuta showing why he could be the next big thing.
