In recent weeks, the Main Event Mafia has developed some internal turmoil, which came to a head at Against All Odds, when Sting and Kurt Angle squared off in a Four Way TNA Heavyweight Championship match against Team 3D. If that wasn’t difficult enough for the Mafia to get by, the two big Frontline returns earlier in the PPV sure didn’t help matters.
Following Scott Steiner’s match with Petey Williams, Samoa Joe made his presence felt, by appearing on the TNAtron and letting Steiner know that he would be Joe’s first victim. On the same token, Booker T was put on notice by a returning AJ Styles, who let him know that he too was back and ready to go.
With the Mafia already shaken, it was time for the main event Fatal Four Way match for the TNA Heavyweight Championship, which saw Sting defend against fellow Mafia member Kurt Angle and Team 3D. Alliances were thrown out the window in this match-up, as it was every man for himself with the main focus being on the title.
Brother Ray and Brother Devon took the fight right to Kurt Angle and Sting, bouncing them around, both inside and outside the ring. Brother Ray worked on Sting during the early parts of the match, while Brother Devon went after Angle, ramming his head into the announcers table and choking him with the camera cables.
As the match progressed, Brother Ray wound up getting Sting in a Figure Four Leglock, while Brother Devon had Angle in a Boston Crab. At this point, Angle crawled over and covered Sting while they were both in the holds. This was pretty cool. Angle and Sting eventually fought back and wound up going after each other.
Sting and Angle exchanged near falls, as Team 3D made their way back to their feet. After some more back and forth action, Team 3D had Sting down and ready for the Wazzzup Headbutt, but Angle ran and hit Devon with a super belly-to-belly suplex. Brother Ray then sent Angle to the floor with a clothesline, before getting hit with a Scorpion Deathdrop for the win.
Mick Foley made his way to the ringside area and presented Sting with the TNA Heavyweight Championship. Foley shook hands with Sting as Angle looked on, rounding out a good PPV.
TNA Against All Odds 2009 PPV Report
The Main Event Mafia was shown arriving to the building in a Hummer Limo, without Sting. Team 3D were shown arriving next, followed by Sting who came on his own.
A video package was shown highlighting the big feuds in TNA.
Match One – TNA X Division Championship Match – Alex Shelley (C) vs. Eric Young
This was a really good match, as to be expected. They went back and forth with each other, countering move after move. Eric Young eventually got dejected and began arguing with the referee, which led to Shelley rolling him up in a schoolboy and getting the pin to retain his title. Highly entertaining match.
Winner Via Pinfall and STILL TNA X Division Champion – Alex Shelley
Match Rating – 7.5/10
Jeremy Borash spoke to Kurt Angle, who said that he and Sting were winners and that they push each other. He went on to say that no matter what, after Against All Odds, the Mafia would be closer than ever before.
A package was shown to recap the feud between Scott Steiner and Petey Williams.
Match Two – Scott Steiner vs. Petey Williams
This was another good match. TNA kicked this PPV off pretty strong. Scott Steiner just overpowered Petey Williams at some points during this match. Williams went for a huricanrana on Steiner and got powerbombed on the floor. Williams was able to fight back, but Steiner caught him again and planted him for the pinfall victory.

Scott Steiner continued the beating after the match, until Samoa Joe appeared on the TNAtron. Joe told Steiner that he was ready to come back and that Steiner was the first victim on his list.
Jeremy Borash caught up with Mick Foley and Sting. Foley and Sting seemed to be working well together.
Brutus Magnus came out and talked about how he is stereotyped. He went on to issue his open challenge which was accepted by Chris Sabin.
Match Three – Brutus Magnus vs. Chris Sabin
This match was pretty much power versus speed. Chris Sabin hit a nice springboard on Brutus Magnus, but got caught up when he returned to the top rope and was crotched. Magnus then drove him to the mat and pinned him to earn the victory on his TNA PPV debut.

Match Rating – 6/10
Lauren stood by with Team 3D who said that they would fight each other, but after the match would still be friends.
Match Four – TNA Knockouts Championship Match – Awesome Kong (C) vs. ODB
Awesome Kong appeared dominant in this match, pretty much shutting down most of ODB’s offense and slamming her around. Kong was able to hit an impressive implant buster on ODB and get the win.

Lauren caught up with Sting, who was listening as Brother Ray talked to him about respect and how the Main Event Mafia are just bullies.
Match Five – TNA Legends Championship Match – Booker T w/ Sharmell (C) vs. Shane Sewell
Booker T thought he had the match won, when he hit Shane Sewell with the Book End, but Sewell kicked out. Sewell fired back and landed some shots on Booker T, before he was tripped up by Sharmell and hit with an Axe Kick that gave Booker the win.

After the match, Booker T was laying down some smack talk on Sewell, when AJ Styles made his return and sent Booker T to the locker room. Styles grabbed the TNA Legends Championship belt and talked about how he grew up and worked his way to the top and said that it was his time to become a legend. They should have a good feud.
Lauren spoke to Matt Morgan who promised to beat up Abyss and threatened to take her out too if she came to ringside.
Match Six – Matt Morgan vs. Abyss
Mike Tenay and Don West spoke about how Matt Morgan had surgery less than a week ago. He deserves a tremendous amount of respect for still working this match. They brawled for a bit. Abyss tried to use the bag of tacks, but the referee threw it out of the ring, before getting bumped. Abyss then went for the tacks, as Morgan grabbed a chair and cracked him. Morgan woke the ref up, but only got a near fall. Morgan went for another chair shot, but got caught and chokeslammed for another near fall. Abyss put the chair on top of Morgan and went for a dive, but Morgan nutted him with the chair. They went back and forth some more, with Abyss getting the chair and attempting to hit Morgan, only for Morgan to pull the referee in front of him. With the referee out, Abyss hit the Black Hole Slam and waited until Mark “Slick” Johnson finally ran out, only counting a near fall. Morgan got up and hit a low blow. He tried to hit the Carbon Footprint, but missed and was hit with another Black Hole Slam for the win.

After the match, Abyss ripped off Matt Morgan’s shirt and laid out the thumbtacks. Abyss went to hit the Black Hole Slam again onto the tacks, but Morgan escaped.
Jeremy Borash was in the Main Event Mafia locker room, as Kurt Angle gave Sting a pep talk before their match. Angle then told Kevin Nash to watch Sting.
Match Seven – TNA Tag Team Championship Match – Beer Money Inc. (James Storm and Robert Roode) w/ Jackie Moore (C) vs. Lethal Consequences (Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed)
This was a really good match. Beer Money Inc. continue to impress, while Lethal Consequences show once again that they can work really well together. After a bunch of near falls, Jackie Moore got involved and handed James Storm a chain. When Jay Lethal went for a monkey flip on Robert Roode, Storm clocked him with the chain, allowing Roode to cover him for the victory.
