Before the evening could proceed with the matches, Gunther hijacked the microphone to demand that Sami Zayn show himself after the numerous attacks he’s initiated lately. Zayn made his case that the Ring General shouldn’t be the upset one here. In all fairness, everyone has been getting screwed over. Ha!
Nevertheless, Sami laid CM Punk out more than he did anyone else. Calling him the “biggest fraud, hypocrite, piece of trash, snake in the grass,” undeserving of breathing the same air as Sami. Wow. Ha! I’ll try to contain my composure despite how hilarious this is. Not because he didn’t say anything that would make someone stop and think, but the conviction in his voice is serious and no one takes it seriously. Everyone is far too much in their own asses, far too much…
Zayn had been running his mouth, so all those he supposedly wronged want to dismantle his head from his shoulders.
Backstage, CM Punk tried getting Johnny Gargano off his ass by offering him a title match tonight. At first, he hadn’t moved. He barely reacted. However, later he managed to get up. Candice LeRae said: “Oh, my God”. But I said the same thing for a completely different reason… Gargano looked like a caveman. Ooof…
During an unusual alliance between Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley fighting against Fallon Henley and Lainey Reed, they won, but the most important part was the assault that came after the match. Michin, B-Fab, and Jade Cargill started the brutal launch, and amazingly, Fatal Influence joined in for a moment, too, before leaving the rest to the other girls to do as they pleased when they first came out here.
You know, I don’t know exactly how I feel when people use John Cena’s most memorable quotes against Nikki Bella without truly understanding what went down with them. Sure, Paige said that Nikki never liked her since day one because she built her brand with Hustle, Loyalty and Respect. Words that particularly stung Nikki. Plus the conclusion about her relationship ending so quickly, too, and I know Paige wasn’t talking about Cena.
But if you’re going to insult her, best do it with words that aren’t put together into making Nikki look like the sole one at fault here. Or even the instigator in the first place. Bah…
Tensions continue to rise as medical conditionally cleared Chelsea Green — as long as she wears the face mask at all times — The Irresistible Forces have something to say. Nia Jax has been showing her irritation over wanting a title match and not getting it. Once she heard what she wanted, she ordered for a Championship bout to happen that very moment. They surrounded Green and Aldis, luckily, Tiffany Stratton came just in time.
This abrupt confrontation lead to a Stratton and Jax fight in the ring. Nia absolutely destroyed Tiffy as I knew she would. More so, Jax removed Green’s mask. Nothing physical came from that, thank you, but it could have been critical.
After saying that Cleveland is weak for not having the guts to leave like he did, Miz said that he didn’t want to celebrate that accomplishment in this city. Bakusai, Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki, make their debut in a fight that was in their favour from the beginning when their opponents are… these people. A reverse Stunner from Kyoki closed the doors on those wandering little fools. Tama and Talla Tonga loomed at the entranceway to see their upcoming challengers.
Blake Monroe still desired a “grander match” that isn’t Giulia, however, Monroe name dropping Giulia only convinced her to deliver an Arrivederci knee shot right to the mouth.
Johnny Gargano vs. CM Punk (c) – Undisputed Championship match
I know Punk just slammed Gargano on the mat, but my immediate reaction was “did he just shave his beard?” Ha! It’s been over an hour since the earlier version of Johnny we saw. Most the match has been Punk putting Gargano down almost just as easily it was to hand him this opportunity. I don’t remember correctly, but I think this funk began when Tommaso Ciampa was stomping his way out and joined AEW.
Albeit shocking, Johnny came close on some occasions to pinning Punk long enough for the three count. Candice knew that as well. Coming after that, a back and forth ensued. Unfortunately, CM Punk got the best out of that exchange. Johnny always felt like another version of Daniel Bryan. The Yes chants added to that point.
Johnny was going for the GTS, Punk caught him, and smacked him with a powerbomb. The champ had the upper hand, and that’s when Sami showed up. Punk left the ring, so he could pursue his true prey, sufficiently for Candice to also get involved by catapulting Punk into the stairs. Gargano tried to capitalize with a springboard DDT that very closely ended this. Anger, exasperation and annoyance.
Zayn attempted to pass the title belt to Gargano to use as a weapon, fortunately, KO intervened. Of course, I don’t necessarily want CM Punk to win, but I want Johnny to lose with integrity. Gunther and Finn Balor were here, too. Sami took them all out. Following the GTS from Punk, he had the match won, but with Candice distracting the referee and Sami hitting the Champion with his own title, Johnny, once again came very close.
With Sami being yelled at to leave, Johnny suffered a GTS and lost. All those interferences finally got Zayn the title match he’s been setting off bombs for.
Winner: CM Punk
