NWA Powerrr: Gut Check Time for Mike Mondo at Samhain

Mike Mondo has been a force on NWA Powerrr since winning the National title at NWA 77. He now faces a (literally) massive challenge in Wrecking Ball Legursky, and the super heavyweight of the National Wrestling Alliance wants to make history at Samhain.

Regardless, it’s Gut Check Time for Mondo to defend his belt.

We come to you from Center Stage in Atlanta, GA. Joe Galli, Tim Storm, and Danny Dealz have the call, and your First Match of the Night is…

Damien Fenrir vs. Kerry Morton

The second-generation star Morton acts cocky, but Fenrir can stand toe-to-toe with the Southern Six member thanks to his technical acumen. He hits a suplex, and Morton climbs up top for an axe handle smash, but Fenrir blocks the offensive move and nails a delayed vertical suplex to make the Rizz God reflect on his poor choices.

He gets back in the ring and Morton with a slap and a spinning neckbreaker for a count of two, and adds insult to injury by putting his shin on his throat to find a shortcut. Fenrir isn’t taking this lying down as he returns fire with European uppercuts and a whip to the corner. He attempts a monkey flip, but Morton lands on his feet. Fenrir goes for a sunset flip that Morton reverses to a pin, and he kicks out. He rakes his back, and Morton struts his stuff to the β€œdelight” of the Atlanta crowd. Fenrir goes for a suplex, but Morton blocks and hits a slingshot suplex of his own for a near fall.

It’s a closely contested match as they go back and forth, and Fenrir lands a powerslam. Now he shifts into another gear with a German suplex and quickly follows with a leaping enzugiri and right to a Pele kick to a dropkick. There’s a series of close calls and near falls between the two men, but in the end, Morton has had enough as he delivers the Show Stopper.

After the match, Morton offers his hand, and Fenrir walks away in disgust.

Carson Drake is with cousin Lockjaw and The Slimeballz, facing literal monsters tonight against The Lost. Aron Stevens is beside himself, pacing around the back as Carson confidently says that Stevens, Lockjaw, and he are the best and that they can’t beat them. The Slimeballz chime in, and I have to agree with Stevens when I ask, “What is wrong with them?”

We now go to The Worthwhile Estate with Tommy Henry, The Paige sisters, and The Slimeballz on the inheritance that started weeks ago. Kenzie and Kylie think they’re getting worked, but Henry feels there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Kenzie thinks the Cazanas are behind this, and then it devolves to a shouting match I have seen a million times on TV.

Thom Latimer talks about losing the Ten Pounds of Gold to β€œThrillbilly” Silas Mason and promises he will get it back, and that will happen in three weeks at Samhain.

Let’s head back to the ring for a hoss fight between…

Big Strong Mims vs. El DragΓ³n Nihan

Yeah, forget finesse. This is Kaiju Carnage in the squared circle. Both men stand eye to eye, and neither one is backing down or getting pushed around. Nihan with a Short whip to the corner, but Mims reverses and works him like a body bag. Then he proceeds with tackles in the corner and fists to the sternum, but Nihan bulldozes with a clothesline and a slam, followed by a leg drop and a cover for a two count.

He also nails him with a shot to the throat and a goozle, but Mims fights out. Nihan comes back with a dropkick for another cover, but Mims reaches the ropes to stop the ref count. This is a down-and-dirty fight with Nihan having the advantage in height and weight. He rushes to the corner, where Mims ducks out, and he gets momentum for a spear and covers for a near fall. He feels this is his match to win and rushes at him, but eats a superkick and a powerbomb by Nihan, ending it decisively.

AJ and KC Cazana talk about hurting the Paige sisters. Papa Joe lays it out that they are to beat them from pillar to post, and it is not a debate. But it will be done By the Book.

Now for something odd, up next is a…

Six Man Casket Match: Aron Stevens, Lockjaw and Carson Drake vs. The Lost (Alex Misery, Gaagz the Gymp, and Lev, with Father James Mitchell)

Galli notes this is the second casket match of the Lightning One era of the NWA, but a first with all six men. During the ring intros, Mitchell welcomes us to Samhain, his favorite season, and promises to put Stevens in a coffin and send him straight to hell.

He is nice like that, and a good party host for this season. Stevens, for his part, is wearing a tracksuit and trademark white glove, and we then go to…

Ads (primarily for The Holy Grail vowing to take the NWA US titles from The Slimeballz next week…

Also, there isn’t much traction back at the Worthwhile Estate, as everyone is still waiting.

We come back, and Stevens is on the mic claiming no one wants to see someone put in a casket, but fans think otherwise. The bell rings, and Stevens bails, making this a three-on-two handicap match that favors The Lost. They whip Lockjaw to Carson in the corner and he lands face first in his cousin’s…err, little Lockjaws.

This match goes everywhere in Center Stage and into the crowd. Carson and Misery battle up by the casket, and Stevens comes back attempts a sneak attack, and he even summons some β€œdruids” he hired to even the odds.

At one point, Carson has Gaagz in the box, but he fights his way out. This is less of a wrestling match than a multi-car pile-up on the I-285 in The Perimeter of Atlanta, with Misery diving to Lockjaw in the crowd.

Meanwhile, up by the ramp, Carson cinches Lev in a sleeper, and he passes out. He then throws his limp body into the casket and nonchalantly closes the lid, but Lev keeps it open. Gaagz blindsides Carson with the loaded glove, but Stevens returns the receipt with a clothesline. Lev knocks Stevens’ head over heels into the casket and closes the lid.

Your Winners: The Lost

Ok, that was a barrage of bodies, but what a match.

Legursky cuts a promo on his large match with Mike Mondo. Like America, he is an underdog, and he predicts that after tonight, he’ll take the title and become a powerhouse, like America. In short, all will fall to the Wrecking Ball.

Your Boy Hammerstone cuts a promo on facing Trevor Murdoch. He ain’t underestimating him but considers him his next step to the top of the NWA, and that will be next week.

Now for the Main Event, and it is for the…

NWA National Championship: Mike Mondo (with Aron Stevens)(c) vs. Wrecking Ball Legursky

Fans are solidly behind β€œWrecking Ball,” and this is a super heavyweight bout that has more beef than a butcher shop. Also of note, Stevens is not in Mondo’s corner after the casket match. In point of fact, not one from Stevens’ stable came out to assist him.

The bell rings, and Mondo rushes with a running dropkick and knocks him down in the corner. Legursky comes back and shows the champ what a Wrecking Ball he can be, and sends him over the top rope. America’s Favorite Superheavyweight then pulls him back in with a delayed suplex to cover for a two count.

Mondo fires back with chops and hits the ropes, but runs into an immovable object in Legursky. He continues to wear down America’s Favorite and smacks him around the head, and that serves to ignite a fire in Legursky. Mondo manages to bring the big man down, but he can’t put him away with a pin. Mondo attempts his Gut Check Time finisher, but can’t get him on his shoulders. Legursky whips him to the corner and then nails a hip attack that makes Mondo see stars.

He follows with a jumping standing splash that gets Legursky a count of two. Mondo goes for a kick, and he ends up leaping into a powerslam, but he kicks out of the pin attempt again. Legursky with a whip to the corner, and then a tackle misses the mark. Mondo goes up top, and it’s bombs away with a diving head butt, but still succeeds in a near fall.

He tries for a sleeper, and Legursky backs him into the corner. Both men battle up top, and Mondo manages to deliver a sunset flip bomb to Legursky to cover for the one, two, and three.

Your Winner, And Still NWA National Champion: Mike Mondo

As he has demonstrated, Mondo was able to gut it out and hold on to the title as the show comes to a close on Samhain.
