NWA Powerrr: Number one contendership on the line

The National Wrestling Alliance has no shortage of men wanting the Ten Pounds of Gold, and on this NWA Powerrr, two men have a stake in that claim. Thom Latimer ruled as NWA Heavyweight champion for over a year before losing the title to “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason. Murdoch is a two-time NWA Heavyweight champ and has never received a rematch for Sweet Charlotte.

Who will come out on top as the new number one contender to face Mason at the Samhain signature event in Georgia?

NWA US Tag Team Championship: The Southern Six (Kerry Morton and Alex Taylor)(c) vs. The Slimeballz (Sage Chantz and Tommy Rant)

Mason makes this observation on the Slimeballz: β€œThey are a crime against humanity.”

(Author’s Note: clearly, Mason has never dealt with the Utah Legislature, but…I digress.)

Galli announces that Taylor is not medically cleared, but NWA president Joe Cazana wants this to go on, so this is a handicap match for all intents and purposes and the titles as still on the line. Also curious is Aron Stevens coming out to observe, and Mason wonders what that “Crooked, no-good two-bit thespian” is doing.

If nothing else, Mason has a gift for gab.

Chantz starts with his grubby hand out, and Morton slaps it away. It’s mostly a back-and-forth match, but The Rizz God is in control even without Too Hot to Trot. Chantz manages to land an enzugiri in the corner, and then bites the champ. Tag to Rant, and Morton grabs him by his tongue.

He showboats a bit until Rant knocks him down, and then the Slimeballz attack with double team action. Morton is fed up by this and starts putting the hurt on Chantz, who once again bumps like the second coming of Spike Dudley. Interestingly, the fans are behind the men from Slimeball City. Morton tries to end it with the Kiss It Goodbye in the corner. Chantz ducks at the last minute, and Morton gets the worst of it in the turnbuckle. Hot tag to Rant, and he is a Slimeball en Fuego. The powerhouse of the duo gives him a headbutt and a senton that crushes Morton’s midsection. A knee strike sends Rant out, and he toys with Chantz with a delayed vertical, but he wriggles out and rolls up Morton. That means…

Morton is visibly upset, and outside the ring, Stevens is agog at what just took place.

As for yours truly, The Slimeballz getting tag titles was not on my bingo card for 2025. But, here we are, folks. Let’s see what pans out heading into the new year.

There is a recap of what took place three weeks ago between Latimer and Murdoch during the “Silas-bration,” which led to the main event (but you’d be cooler if you checked it out here).

Latimer cuts a promo and speaks on the odds facing Murdoch. He admits he’s been beaten by him before, but also notes Murdoch got lost in the shuffle, focusing on the tag division. But given his year with the title, Latimer believes he’s got the headwind, and he will kick his arse.

The Holy Grail and EC3 face the Drakes, Carson, and Lockjaw next week on NWA Powerrr. Pretty Boy Smooth makes a point to say they’re gonna drop him and his bum ass cousin. As for Aron Stevens, Smooth tells him his loaded glove ain’t big enough for his hand and his fist will drop them quick.

Kyle Davis is in the ring to bring out Da Pope. He mentions his interference at NWA 77 as Mims lost the National title to Mike Mondo. So let’s hear from Da Pope himself as he addresses his congregation:

“Three things that Pope don’t like. One thing is a cheater. Now, a cheater is someone who undermines the process to get to the top, while you work twice as hard to maintain your spot as a cheater.

Number two, Pope can’t stand a backstabber. A backstabber is someone where you have reached down, you’ve assisted, you’ve helped, you’ve elevated, you pulled up, and once they got to their feet, daddy, they tried to push you down. I don’t like that.

Number three: Boy, Pope cannot stand a crybaby. Every time you turn around, it’s ‘Woe is me.’ Well, that brings me to you, Mims, and why I cost you your NWA national championship. Because you became all those things, but worry not, daddy. Worry not, because Pope ain’t done with you yet. You’re incomplete, Mims. You are a frame without a picture. You are a camera without the film. I’m going to break this down in terminology that even you can understand. You are corn on the cob without the niblets. And I want to assure you that Pope is here to complete you and complete you, I will.

Pope. Has. Spoken.”

I hope to see more of that in the weeks to come, and I am curious how Big Strong Mims will respond.

Meanwhile, at the local BitCrush, TV MA members Ms. Starr and Tiffany Nieves meet with Mel. She asked what he thought of last week’s match against Kenzie and Kylie Paige and how she got Gretta to stand in for Valentina Rosii. Mel, in the nicest way possible, confirmed it happened. He asks where she found Gretta, and he isn’t sold on her. La Princesa is “aghast” at this, so she and Starr decide to call her and have Mel say it to her face.

Trevor Murdoch cuts a promo about how he’s been passed over for a rematch for the Ten Pounds of Gold for some time now, and finally, the higher-ups have woken up. He vows that once he beats Latimer and gets his hands back on Sweet Charlotte, it’s payday.

That’ll be something to see tonight, but let’s head back to the ring, and this next match is between…

AJ Cazana (with Joe Cazana) vs Tommy Henry

Once again, we get another chapter in the feud between the NWA Southeast promotion and the Kross Fire Wrestling outfit. However, since Papa Joe is the NWA president, it’s announced as a Cazana-mandated no disqualification match.

Boy, does Cazana really hate Henry and his promotion, or what? I mean, I’ve been petty before, but this is another level.

As the match gets underway, Joe tries to trip up Henry. He rolls out to face the president man-to-man, which allows AJ to pummel him. It’s a one-sided battle on the outside with the Bullheaded Brute. AJ winds up for a clothesline that misses, and his arm hits the ring post, but it doesn’t slow down the older member of the Country Gentleman. He then attempts a shoulder tackle to Henry and hits the steel steps. He bounces AJ’s head on the steps and then stares down the NWA president.

Back in the ring, AJ continues to beat him in the corner while Joe takes off the turnbuckle from the opposite corner. He whips Henry to the exposed buckle, and AJ measures and gives a flying elbow for a two count.

Henry goes under the ring, grabs a kendo stick, and takes AJ to the woodshed. He grabs it from Henry, swings and misses by a country mile. Henry takes advantage and rolls up the Brute for a count of two. AJ gets a head of steam and charges, but Henry ducks out, and his shoulder hits the post as he flies out of the ring.

Joe is in the ring and wants to give Henry a personal reading of the NWA rulebook. Kylie Paige then gets in the squared circle, and she helps her dad by giving the NWA president a shot to his…err, little books, followed by a basement dropkick.

AJ is back in, and he powerslams Kylie, then grabs the branding iron to choke Henry. Joe holds Kylie as she watches her dad pass out, and this match is mercifully over.

Kylie cradles her beaten dad, as the Cazana prove once again they are tops in the NWA as they claim they did it “by the book.”

Back at the BitCrush, Mel tries to rationalize with Gretta, and you’ve never seen a man try to dig himself out of a hole faster than he. Gretta towers over Mel, and she ensures he never forgets who she is, let alone what would happen if he badmouths her again.

Number One Contender Match: Trevor Murdoch (with Mike Knox) vs. Thom Latimer

Before the match gets underway, the ref steps out of the ring, and we see Eric Smalls come out from the back wearing the stripes.
Murdoch is beside himself, especially since it was Smalls who was instrumental in him and Knox losing the NWA World Tag Team titles, so we’ll see how this shakes up.

The bell rings, and both men test each other, as it’s been a while since they went hard at each other in singles competition. Latimer with a standing dropkick, and then he gets on the attack to the former two-time NWA champion in the corner. They go back and forth, but Latimer mounts with punches while staring down Mason at the commentary desk. A scoop and a slam later, and Murdoch begs off. Latimer takes the bait and is sent outside the ring, where Murdoch rams his lower back to the apron edge. He rolls him back in the squared circle and nails a Full Nelson bomb for a two count.

He continues to pick apart Latimer until…

Ads (where we hear Larry Bleers II, Esq., on the inheritance to be dispersed. He assures whoever is the lucky recipient that it will be done to the letter of the law, and whoever gets it will have a true generosity involved, whatever that means. Plus, Matt Cardona returns to NWA Powerrr in two weeks, and Carson Drake and Aron Stevens are still trying to figure out Lockjaw. Good luck with that, guys.)

We come back, and Murdoch chips down Latimer and is in the driver’s seat. He gives a toe drop and fires with crossface punches along Latimer’s nose. Murdoch goes up to the top turnbuckle for the flying Bulldog, but Latimer rolls away before he can get in position. Then he starts getting a second wind with an atomic drop to a clothesline, then he whips Murdoch in the corner and rushes with a back elbow to a corner splash, and then nails a flatliner.

Latimer follows with a DDT on Murdoch and covers for a two count. Murdoch is sent over the ropes, and he pulls down the King of All Evil by the hair. Now he drills Latimer with the flying bulldog and gives a lackadaisical cover, and he kicks out at two. Murdoch is beside himself, and he proceeds to stomp a mudhole at the former champ.

Smalls tries to interject and gets pushed away. You know that doesn’t sit well with the Half Pint Punk, and he knocks Murdoch right in the…errr, little badasses. That allows Latimer to come back with a pop-up powerbomb for a count of two. One piledriver later, and Latimer stacks up Murdoch to end it in one, two, and three.

After the match, Mason stares down Latimer, as the Brit gestures to his wrist to let him know time was ticking on Big Daddy Thrill title run, as the show comes to an end.
