TORONTO – At the 2018 War of the Worlds event in Toronto, Sanada, Evil, and Hiromu Takahashi defeated Colt Cabana, Kenny King, and Jay Lethal in the main event. Dalton Castle and Flip Gordon were advertised to wrestle in the main event but did not appear.
The main event was scheduled to be Los Ingobernables De Japon (Sanada, Evil, Bushi, and Hiromu Takahashi) facing Dalton Castle, Kenny King, Jay Lethal, and Flip Gordon. However, Castle, at the prior ROH event in Lowell, MA, told the crowd that he needed time off to let his injuries heal. Castle did not make an appearance at the Toronto show likely due to his broken hand and a back injury.
In addition, Flip Gordon was unable to make it to Toronto due to his flight being canceled. United Airlines and Air Canada refused to book an alternative flight for him. Flip has a unique high-flying style and a charismatic personality so I was disappointed that he could not wrestle at the show. It appeared to be a three-on-two match until Colt Cabana joined King and Lethal to make it a three-on-three match, Sanada, Evil, and Hiromu Takahashi facing Cabana, King, and Lethal.
Before the match started, the crowd was very loud. Tickets to this event went on sale in January and sold out later in the month which may be the reason why the crowd was buzzing since only the super fans got tickets. The Toronto crowd was hot all night and the main event was no exception.
Given how loud the crowd was Los Ingobernables De Japon worked a slower paced match than they do in Japan. They were receiving great reactions from doing simple mannerism and moves.
The crowd might have been its loudest when a comedy spot occurred. Cabana wanted to fight Hiromu’s toy stuffed cat Daryl. Hiromu went over to ringside to retrieve Daryl and placed him into the middle of the ring. Cabana was about to attack Daryl when Hiromu school boyed Cabana for a near fall. Los Ingobernables De Japon picked up the win. Tetsuya Naito came to the ring to celebrate with the other Los Ingobernables De Japon members.
