If you’re like me, this short week hasn’t felt as short as it should have so far.
But tonight’s still Wednesday so it’s time for AEW Dynamite!
We’re live at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, OH.
MJF kicks things off, holding his CMLL title and title contract. He says he’s going to send Mark Briscoe back to Delaware in tonight’s main event, calling him lucky.
1. Jon Moxley vs. ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey
Mox comes out with Marina Shafir and Wheeler Yuta. I had a witty remark for this… Damn. It’s gone. Interestingly enough, Kevin Knight goes back through the tunnel as he opts not to accompany Bailey to the ring.
Mox taunts his opponent but Bailey rushes and lands a stiff kick as the match gets underway.
Mox pokes Bailey’s eyes out as he’s outside the ring.
Marina Shafir sweeps his legs out as referee Paul Turner can only tell her to stop. Here comes Kevin Knight to get in Moxley’s grill. Bailey nails him with a Moonsault and takes control, nailing a devastating move.
KNEE + SPINE = NOT A GREAT TIME

The story here is that Jon Moxley apparently can’t trust himself to fight a match on his own. Something seems to have snapped in him when he lost the title to “Hangman” Adam Page at All In.
During the first commercial break, Moxley goes after Bailey’s finger and isolates the concentration of his offense there.
Moxley gets laid out for a pinfall but kicks out. Bailey locks in a Juji Katame / Cross Arm Breaker. Moxley and Bailey roll each other up repeatedly, trying to secure the pin.
Wheeler Yuta gains a grip of Bailey’s foot as the ref doesn’t see it. Darby Allin surprises Yuta from behind and appears to take him away.
Moxley hits a Death Rider.
Winner: Jon Moxley.
Renee Paquette is backstage with “Timeless” Toni Storm and Alex Windsor. Windsor says her opponents better hit her as hard as they can.
The two exit stage left, seemingly before Paquette is done with the segment.

Moxley and Shafir are outside with Wheeler Yuta in a body bag. Darby Allin challenges Moxley at Forbidden Door, stapling the note to Yuta’s forehead in the bag.
Paquette is outside with Mercedes Mone. Mone wastes a slice of watermelon and then walks away. Not a great night for Renee so far.
2. Alex Windsor vs. Queen Aminata vs. Skye Blue vs. Billie Starkz in a TBS Championship 4-Way Qualifier
After the four enter, “Timeless” Toni Storm’s music hits, much to the chagrin of Athena.
Windsor and Starkz pair off as Aminata and Blue go after each other.
Aminata hits Windsor with a Snap Mare and a kick to the lower back. Chocolate kisses before Aminata gets sent into the steel steps. Skye Blue and Billie Starkz seem to have their form of an alliance.
Windsor hits Blue with a Blue Thunder Bomb but Billie Starkz gets in her way. Starkz gets flattened.
Giving and taking no quarter as both Alex Windsor and Queen Aminata are giving it all!

All four get laid out after headbutts fly in ever direction.
Skye Blue uses a chair on Aminata on the outside of the ring. Aminata comes back and drops Blue onto the same chair. Athena tries to interject but Storm knocks her down.
Windsor pins Starkz.
Winner: Alex Windsor.
Mercedes Mones music hits as soon as Windsor wins. She gets into the ring and hands all her belts to the ref, except the TBS Championship. The two get in each other’s faces and Athena gives Storm another O-Face and Mone knocks down Windsor. Athena and Mone stare each other down before walking away.
Renee Paquette is backstage with the Young Bucks. They go after a production guy, demanding respect. Safe to say Renee Paquette’s in a better mood now.
She’s in the ring to introduce the new TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher. He’s accompanied by Don Callis, Lance Archer, Hechicero, and Josh Alexander. The two extra titles

The crowd lets them hear it, not letting up at all as Callis and then Fletcher talk a lot of stuff. They start talking to each other. There’s an easel covered. They uncover it and the painting below is quite ridiculous.
Fletcher will defend his TNT Championship Saturday on Collision.
Alicia Atout is backstage with Cope. He doesn’t know how to feel about Christian Cage. Cope says Cage hasn’t learned anything and that they’re both otherwise occupied.
Cope vs. Stoke next week. No FTR interference allowed.
3. Brodido vs. The Young Bucks
The Bucks got their entrance back, sadly.
But there’s so much wrong with their entrance. The chyron refers to them as “Max and Jeremy”. The crowd gets really into it.

Bandido kicks things off, taking control as both Jacksons try to neutralize him. Brody King tags in and levels both of them.

I think the Young Bucks somehow saw this and decided to wake up, taking control of the match.
Bandido nails a massive drop and lets everyone know he’s that dude.
The Young Bucks seems to have the match won but Brody King comes out of nowhere to break up the pinfall, keeping Brodido alive.
Brody King nails a Death Valley Driver on Matt on the apron but the Bucks don’t let that slow them down as Nick gets him back. That doesn’t matter.
Winners: Brodido will take on FTR in the final, winner takes on The Hurt Syndicate at Forbidden Door August 24.
The Hurt Syndicate are backstage with Renee Paquette and MJF comes in, talking to MVP after Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley leave. MVP says MJF’s been too selfish and THS is not about that. MVP says it is personal and that Lashley will come after MJF if he succeeds against Mark Briscoe. Wasn’t there a classic movie about difficult choices? Not sure it’s the same but it might be for MJF.
Alicia Atout is backstage with Stoke and FTR. They put Stoke over and Stoke is injured and calls Cope a bully. Stoke says he’s going to pin Cope next week.
There’s a promo package narrated by Don Callis, putting over Kazuchika Okada and calling out Swerve Strickland. This feud will be an all-timer.
Renee Paquette introduces Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana. The match is official for Forbidden Door – Swerve Strickland vs. Kazuchika Okada. Strickland reminds everyone what happened the last time Don Callis tried to interject himself into a Strickland match.
Strickland puts some respect on Okada’s name but says a wrestler like himself hasn’t been seen before and won’t be seen after he hangs up his boots.
Alicia Atout is backstage with Mark Briscoe. He says his mouth is done talking and his fists are picking up the conversation tonight. “Hangman” Adam Page comes up. He recalls their history but admires who Briscoe has had to become these last few weeks. He hopes Briscoe does challenge him next.
After commercial, Renee Paquette is backstage with Queen Aminata. Willow Nightingale comes out and then Kris Statlander comes up to sarcastically join the fun. Things between Nightingale and Statlander seem to be moving as slow as possible.

4. MJF vs. Mark Briscoe
CMLL Men’s World Champion MJF gets an early dose of Briscoe’s hard-hitting offense and they quickly end up going up the stairs between two sections. Heading back down, Briscoe lands more shots, moving MJF back to outside the ring. He sets up a chair and lands a Neck Breaker over the barricade.

Briscoe soon goes for a table from under the ring, setting it up. MJF gets up and gets a few shots in. Briscoe sends him into the ring post.
For the second time, MJF avoids the Froggy Beau by rolling out of the way. He pokes out the eyes after the ref’s distracted and takes control.
Briscoe fights back after the final commercial break. For the third time, MJF rolls out of range of the Froggy Beau. Briscoe drops the elbow this time. A fourth Froggy Beau evaded but Briscoe flies through the ropes to knock down his opponent.
He gets MJF on the table and moves up to the top rope. A FIFTH potential Froggy Beau evaded. MJF counters and gets Briscoe into a submission, calling back to his mentor Chris Jericho.
The two end up on the top ropes and MJF eventually gets dropped with an uppercut. He finally (!) hits the Froggy Beau on the sixth attempt but MJF kicks out. Briscoe’s ribs sustained earlier damage so he’s not able to cover immediately.
MJF times it perfectly, rolling out as soon as Briscoe leaves his feet. No dice for Briscoe. MJF goes into the ring and opts for the count-out. The ref gets up to nine. MJF breaks the count with a knee and then a DDT. He covers.
Briscoe gets his leg up on the rope but the ref doesn’t see it.
Winner: MJF.
MJF goes for more offense after winning the match, pulling out his Dynamite Diamond ring.
“Hangman” Adam Page comes out with eyes locked on MJF. He rushes MJF and the two need to be separated. MJF walks away and Page rushes to check on Briscoe. Page comes out to follow MJF and security tries to intervene again.
Page gets MJF into the ring and lines up for the Buckshot Lariat but MJF again cowers away to close the show.
