A new backstage report has revealed who WWE originally planned for Brock Lesnar to face at SummerSlam before the company’s creative plans changed.
According to Self Made Pro in a Self Made Session, the initial direction called for Brock Lesnar to meet Gunther at SummerSlam, while Gunther had also been scheduled to face Roman Reigns earlier in the year before those plans were altered.
“Gunther was supposed to face Brock at SummerSlam, and Gunther was supposed to face Roman in the late spring/early summer. For whatever reason, that got changed, so that switched up a lot of creative,” Self Made Pro said.
The Report Also Stated That Brock Lesnar Did Not Push To Continue His Feud With Oba Femi
Brock Lesnar is now set to face Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam, leading to speculation that Lesnar had pushed to continue that rivalry. However, Self-Made Pro dismissed that suggestion.
“Like I said, Gunther was gonna work Roman and Brock. I don’t think it was a case of Brock saying, ‘Give me two more Oba matches.’ That’s not what happened.”
The report also claimed Lesnar has been more flexible creatively during his current WWE run than at any previous point in his career.
“This period right now has been the least creatively picky that Brock Lesnar has ever been.”
WWE has not commented on the reported original plans, which would have significantly changed the SummerSlam card currently being built.
