A WWE star is set to undergo surgery after suffering a torn tricep, with the injury expected to lead to an extended absence.
According to Fightful Select, 41-year-old Santos Escobar will have surgery this Thursday to repair a torn tricep, an issue he has been dealing with for several months. The injury was originally sustained during a match with El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. at an NXT live event over Royal Rumble weekend in January.
Santos Escobar Stepped Away From WWE After The Injury, But Continued To Compete In AAA
Santos Escobar subsequently stepped away from live events but continued to compete in select AAA matches while still carrying the injury. The situation worsened during his most recent appearance at Rey de Reyes, where he aggravated the damage in a match involving El Grande Americano and La Parka.
The injury is expected to sideline Escobar for an extended period.
Escobar had also recently been the subject of speculation regarding his WWE status after his profile appeared in the alumni section on WWE’s website. It was later clarified that the move occurred when his contract briefly expired last year, before he re-signed with the company. His profile was not updated following the new deal.
