An unexpected injury has forced a title change in WWE NXT, with one rising star now set for an extended period on the sidelines.
During the latest episode of WWE NXT, Elio LeFleur appeared wearing a sling and confirmed he has suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder. As a result of the injury, LeFleur announced he has been forced to vacate the NXT Speed Championship.
LeFleur revealed that a tournament will begin on next week’s show to crown a new champion, even encouraging Eli Knight, who was seated beside him during the segment, to enter and pursue the vacant title.
Elio LeFleur & Lexis King Were Both Injured During A WWE NXT Live Event
The injury stems from an WWE NXT live event on March 20, where LeFleur and Lexis King were both hurt during a tag team match. While King has since been medically cleared, LeFleur remained sidelined and was seen in a sling in the days following the show.
The situation had already impacted recent NXT programming. On the March 24 episode, LeFleur and Knight were found laid out backstage ahead of a scheduled match against Shawn Spears and Niko Vance in a number one contender’s tournament.
Their removal from the bout opened the door for Los Americanos to take their place. The team went on to win the tournament, defeating Birthright, and have since earned a shot at Vanity Project for the NXT Tag Team Championships at Stand & Deliver.
With LeFleur now expected to miss several months, the focus turns to who will emerge as the new NXT Speed Champion in the upcoming tournament.
