An NXT star has provided an update after suffering the injury that ruled them out of what would have been the biggest match of their WWE career.
Layla Diggs took to social media to confirm the setback, sharing a photo of herself wearing a medical sling while offering an optimistic message to fans. Diggs was injured during an NXT live event in Sebring, Florida, over the weekend. WWE has not revealed how the injury occurred, but NXT General Manager Robert Stone announced on this week’s episode of NXT that she had not been medically cleared to compete.
The injury forced Diggs to miss her scheduled NXT Women’s North American Championship match against Zaria. She had earned the title opportunity by winning a Fatal Four-Way Match to become the number one contender.
In an Instagram post, Diggs remained positive despite the disappointment.
“Different stages of grief. Serving, sad face, happy, back to serving. Still giving EVERYTHING ✨ Thank you everyone for reaching out, I have a lot to say and need to respond. But currently living inside my bubble of positivity, everything happens for a reason. And everything works together for my good. I’ll be back and I’ll be better.”
WWE Changed Layla Diggs Title Bout Into A Fatal Four-Way Match
With Layla Diggs unable to compete, WWE changed the scheduled championship match into a Fatal Four-Way featuring Zaria, Izzi Dame, Lizzy Rain and Nikkita Lyons. Zaria retained the NXT Women’s North American Championship by pinning Lyons after hitting an F-5.
WWE has not disclosed the nature of Diggs’ injury or announced a timetable for her return to the ring.
