Last night, Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown was taped alongside the live broadcast of Raw at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The spoilers for Friday’s show are as follows:
The episode opened with Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn addressing the WWE Universe. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso interrupted Zayn, leading to a number one contender’s match between the two being made official for the night’s main event.
Elsewhere, Charlotte Flair delivered a backstage promo before teaming with Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green in six-woman tag team action. However, the trio came up short as Jade Cargill, Michin and B-Fab picked up the victory.
Backstage, Zayn was later shown speaking with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce.
Rey Fenix successfully retained the AAA Cruiserweight Championship by defeating El Hijo Del Vikingo in another featured match on the show.
The rivalry between Giulia and Blake Monroe escalated backstage. After Giulia called out Monroe, Kiana James distracted her, allowing Monroe to launch an attack. Monroe then turned her attention to James, laying her out as well.
Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu were interrupted backstage by Royce Keys, while Carmelo Hayes confronted Trick Williams, seeking a WWE United States Championship opportunity. Instead, Williams granted Hayes a non-title match, which is scheduled to take place on the July 10 edition of SmackDown from Oklahoma City.
Danhausen also appeared backstage alongside The Miz, Kit Wilson and Matt Cardona, where he announced that he will face JD McDonagh at Saturday Night’s Main Event at Madison Square Garden on July 18.
In the women’s division, Lainey Reid defeated Brie Bella after outside interference involving Paige and Fatal Influence created a distraction.
Another backstage altercation saw Finn Balor wish Cody Rhodes luck ahead of the night’s main event, only to be blindsided by Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga after Rhodes walked away.
The show concluded with Cody Rhodes defeating Jey Uso in the main event after connecting with Cross Rhodes. The victory earned Rhodes a shot at Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Championship on the July 6 edition of Raw. During the match, Uso appeared to injure his ankle while diving to the outside, but was able to continue and finish the bout.
