Given Chelsea Green’s injuries, Nick Aldis nearly stripped her of her Interim WWE Championship title after an archaic display of grit she showed at SummerSlam. She came back with a black eye and a bruised face. Medical said she wasn’t cleared, but Aldis decided to give her 30 days to get better and remain the Championship holder.
She was proud of herself, and so am I… until Gunther felt like making it about his shortcomings and tearing down her successes. The Ring General kept blabbering on to the point where it felt like disrespect, so Matt Cardona, Chelsea’s husband, got in-between. Matt came close numerous times to landing a hit on Gunther, but Chelsea attempted to calm him down. At first, it worked, yet it didn’t take long for brute force to speak louder than sense.
And since we’re still on the subject of lacking sense, an impromptu fight commenced involving these two men, where Green stood near the commentary table. Gunther kept mocking her as he beat the living hell out her spouse. Lariats and suplexes aplenty. It came to no one’s surprise when Gunther applied a Boston Crab submission that ended Cardona as quickly as a fussed-out lightbulb.
Backstage, Tatum Paxley was still integrating herself into the blue brand by pursuing a friendship with Charlotte Flair and newly returned Alexa Bliss. Alexa said she likes Tatum, but Charlotte remained… indifferent. If anything, she felt pinned after seeing how Paxley decorated their new dressing room of some sort. It’s far too small. Collages of both Bliss and Flair were plastered all over the walls. Hmm…
Chelsea has been put under a teasing guillotine at the hands of anyone who stepped up to have their say. Nia Jax was screwed out of SummerSlam, so she intimidated Green to give her what she wants. Tiffany Stratton saw the misbalance and tried to help, only to be clobbered herself prior to a Championship match she has later tonight against Jacy Jayne. Since Chelsea wasn’t medically in the safe zone yet, she couldn’t physically do anything to help, forced to watch.
Stratton had sustained some damage to his ribs, and it was made apparent during her fight with Jayne. She kept holding onto it and the Backstabber added more strain to her focus. So much so that she temporarily abandoned her position to body splash Lainey and Fallon on the outside, who attempted to wreck things. That didn’t matter, though, since Tiffy still lost when she collided with the Rolling Encore.
Wade Barrett saw this Championship match between Carmelo Hayes and Baron Corbin as a David and Goliath situation. I’m not sure why Corbin seemed to prefer to split his time between MLW and WWE. He’ll be showing up tomorrow night as well, I wouldn’t be shocked… Once Baron shoved Carmelo off the top and concluded this battle with End of Days, it was truly over.
The important moment, however, is when Trick Williams and Lil Yatchy ambushed the current champ. Williams was still ticked off that he lost his belt to an irresolute Bishop.
The Tag Team Champions Damian Priest and R-Truth were defending their titles against the MFTs (Talla Tonga and Tama Tonga) and the War Raiders. Since the summons of Haku, Tama and Talla have been on an even bigger tear than when they used to ride with Solo Sikoa. The Brothers Keeper put an end to Truth. Damian was taken out by Ivar near the timekeeper’s area, and Erik was sent over the commentary desk.
As we move with the evening, KO entered the ring to address CM Punk. They go one-on-one for the first time next week in Toronto for the Undisputed Championship. There are several reasons as to why Owens hates Punk, one of them being that our current champ felt like insulting, berating and yelling at Kevin in a room full of their peers 20 years ago. It’s not that simple.
The person Punk has become, the things he said and done never looked right in Owens’ eyes. The arrogance, the entitlement is unbearable. Kevin reckoned that Punk only came back because he had no other option. His persona was a venom in everything else he was part of, and WWE seemed like his last chance to reform his image.
I think Punk misunderstood what Owens wanted from him. He said that CM’s act is performative, so maybe, honesty, some integrity would be nice. Punk wanted Oba Femi, but got a “endometriosis” instead. Wow… Owens theorized that it bothered Punk that he never sought out his advice and guidance like many others have.
This messiah mask Punk is wearing does get on my nerves, and I think I’m hearing others who felt the same. He’s always rubbed me the wrong way since I learned of his existence… I can’t put it down to just one sentence of desperation.
Cody Rhodes was meant to be in a match against Sami Zayn, yet Randy Orton still had beef with the guy. So, the Viper jumped the American Nightmare. Orton vowed to show the worst version of himself to Rhodes, and that’s what he’s doing. Randy almost ended Cody, and Rhodes came close to closing the book on Orton.
