Last night’s WWE Raw opened with Gunther addressing last week’s controversial victory over AJ Styles. The Ring General said Styles made a fatal error by becoming obsessed with forcing a tapout rather than remembering who he was facing. Gunther reminded the crowd of his endurance in last year’s Royal Rumble, where he lasted over an hour, and declared his intention to win the match again this year.
Styles interrupted and demanded a rematch at the Royal Rumble, but Gunther repeatedly declined, stating he had no interest in pulling double duty. As Gunther attempted to leave, Styles accused him of fear and reminded him that he tapped out when the referee was not looking. Gunther returned to the ring and laid out his condition, agreeing to the match only if Styles put his entire career on the line.
The first match of the night saw Becky Lynch defend the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship against Maxxine Dupri. Dupri impressed early with her aggression and athleticism, pushing the champion to the limit. Lynch weathered the storm and slowed the pace, but Dupri continued to threaten an upset, even locking in an ankle lock.
The turning point came when Natalya placed Lynch’s foot on the bottom rope to break a pinfall, betraying Dupri. Moments later, Lynch capitalised with the Man Handle Slam to retain. After the match, Natalya viciously attacked Dupri and locked in the Sharpshooter until officials intervened.
Jey Uso then appeared briefly, declaring himself for the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble and putting the locker room on notice before exiting.
A fast-paced six-man tag followed as Austin Theory, Bronson Reed and Logan Paul of The Vision faced Dragon Lee, Rey Mysterio and Penta. The match broke down into chaos late when Logan Paul attempted to introduce brass knuckles. Adam Pearce intercepted the weapon, but the distraction allowed Rey to strike Theory with the knuckles and Penta to finish him with the Mexican Destroyer.
Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky addressed the crowd next, officially declaring for the Women’s Royal Rumble and promoting their upcoming tag title defence. Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez responded, only for Raquel Rodriguez to ambush Ripley and Sky, leaving tensions high heading into Saturday.
Je’Von Evans faced El Grande Americano later in the night, but the bout was halted after Evans suffered an apparent injury following a hard collision with the barricade. Evans was ruled unable to continue.
Backstage, AJ Styles informed Adam Pearce that he had accepted Gunther’s terms and would put his career on the line at the Royal Rumble.
The main event saw CM Punk defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor in a hard-hitting contest. Balor repeatedly threatened with the Coup De Grace, even landing it late, but Punk refused to stay down. Punk ultimately connected with a decisive GTS to retain the title.
After the match, Punk helped Balor to his feet and raised his arm in a show of respect as WWE Raw went off the air, closing a night that firmly set the stage for Royal Rumble season.
