WWE has removed a controversial t-shirt from its online store.
Trick Williams’ “Lemon Pepper Steppers” t-shirt is no longer for sale after concerns were raised about its design.
The shirt depicted chicken wings being dunked into one of Trick’s famous boots.
One presumes there were issues surrounding racial stereotypes in the United States.
The phrase “Lemon Pepper Steppers” has been associated with African American slag since the 1930s.
The actual phrase can be broken down:
Lemon Pepper — a popular seasoning, especially associated with chicken and wings.
Stepper — someone who steps out, walks with style, swagger or confidence.
Lemon Pepper Steppers — essentially stylish shoes / footwear that you step out in with attitude and flavour.
Rapper/artist Moo Moo (Dwight Harmon) released a song titled “LPS (Lemon Pepper Steppers)” back in 2020. The song uses “lemon pepper steppers” in reference to shoes and stepping with style. The phrase became a TikTok trend/dance.
The shirt is still available in the WWE Euro Shop though.
