WWE is said to be planning a third meeting between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, although the match may not take place at WrestleMania 42.
The closing moments of Survivor Series: WarGames hinted at another chapter between the two. Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns teamed together in the men’s WarGames match but fell short after a masked man, widely believed to be Austin Theory, interfered on behalf of the opposing team. The premium live event ended with Rhodes and Reigns exchanging tense words inside the cage.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE does intend to run another Rhodes versus Reigns match for the WWE Championship, which Rhodes currently holds. Dave Meltzer reported that the company has several potential WrestleMania scenarios on the table, none of which guarantee that the trilogy bout will take place on the grandest stage.
Possible plans include Seth Rollins versus Bron Breakker, Roman Reigns versus CM Punk, and Rhodes facing a different opponent entirely. Meltzer noted that Rollins has expressed a desire to compete at WrestleMania and that this is considered a possibility, although it remains too early to confirm.
Rhodes and Reigns have faced each other twice at WrestleMania, splitting victories at WrestleMania 39 and 40. Reigns won their first encounter, before Rhodes defeated him the following year to complete his long-running story and capture the WWE Championship.
When Did Cody Rhodes And Roman Reigns Last Face Each Other In WWE?
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns last faced each other at WrestleMania 40, where Rhodes defeated Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Title.
Rhodes and Reigns have only had two singles bouts together in WWE, both taking place in the main event of a WrestleMania. They have had numerous tag matches, either teaming together, or facing off against each other.
