A surprising backstage pitch from WWE’s ThunderDome era has resurfaced involving plans for a modern-day version of the New World Order.
Speaking on the Public Enemies Podcast, former WWE writer Chris Dunn revealed that WWE seriously considered reviving the legendary faction during 2020 while the company was producing shows inside the ThunderDome during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Chris Dunn, the proposed lineup for the reboot would have included Sheamus, Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Lars Sullivan.
“So, the pitch was Sheamus, Cesaro, Nakamura, and Lars Sullivan.”
Dunn claimed the idea came very close to happening and revealed that an original nWo member had even travelled to Orlando to introduce the new group before plans unexpectedly fell apart.
“It was really close to happening. I forgot which legendary nWo member was supposed to fly to Orlando to introduce this new nWo. They essentially landed, and they didn’t pass the COVID test,” Dunn said, while clarifying it was not ‘X-Pac’ Sean Waltman.
Kevin Nash Has Denied That He Was Ever Involved In A WWE COVID-Era nWo Reboot
The report quickly sparked speculation among fans regarding which original nWo member was involved. Kevin Nash previously revealed that he and members of his family tested positive for COVID-19 in September 2020, although Nash has since publicly stated he never heard about the proposed reboot plans.
Lars Sullivan would later wrestle his final WWE match in October 2020 before being released by the company in January 2021 after reportedly requesting his release due to anxiety issues.
