WWE has officially scrapped two championships following a major change on this week’s episode of NXT.
WWE has officially retired its Speed Championships following Zaria‘s title unification victory at NXT Heatwave. Zaria entered Heatwave as the NXT Women’s North American Champion before defeating Women’s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair and Kali Armstrong in a three-way match to unify the two championships.
During Tuesday’s episode of WWE NXT, Zaria met with NXT General Manager Robert Stone backstage and revealed that she had decided to keep only the Women’s North American Championship, ending the Women’s Speed Championship.
The decision also had consequences for Men’s Speed Champion Lexis King, who was in Stone’s office alongside the rest of BirthRight. Stone informed King that with the Women’s Speed Championship retired, his championship was now defunct as well. King subsequently handed the title over to the NXT General Manager.
WWE Speed Championships Come To An End
Charlie Dempsey questioned why things continued to go wrong for BirthRight before King insisted that Stone could never “take away their birthright.” Dempsey responded by declaring that it was time for the group to begin taking from the wrestling business. King said he knew exactly what they should do before leaving Stone’s office alongside Dempsey, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Arianna Grace.
The development officially ends WWE’s Speed Championships, which were originally introduced as part of the company’s Speed series. Speed matches were designed around strict time limits, typically lasting three to five minutes, and the series originally aired through WWE’s partnership with X, formerly known as Twitter.
New episodes of WWE Speed stopped appearing on the platform in July 2025, with the championships subsequently moving to NXT. Zaria’s decision to retain only the Women’s North American Championship following Heatwave has now resulted in both Speed titles being retired.
