It has been reported that WWE recently offered Chris Jericho a retirement storyline if he returned to the promotion.
Dave Meltzer wrote in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter about the ongoing Chris Jericho situation with AEW and his rumoured return to WWE. Meltzer reported that Jericho has been approached by WWE as of late, and that they offered him a storyline centred around his retirement from wrestling.
“As noted many times, this one is a Jericho decision and all hints are in the WWE direction, I know that WWE has offered him a retirement storyline, and those in WWE have said that’s what they’d be interested in.”
Meltzer continued that higher-ups within WWE are expecting Jericho to make a return, and that he could be there as soon as early next year, but nothing is officially confirmed yet.
“Others expect him to be there early next year, but nothing is confirmed.”
When Does Chris Jericho’s AEW Contract Expire?
It has been speculated that Chris Jericho’s AEW contract is ending at the end of this year, as it was announced by AEW in October 2022 that Y2J signed a contract extension that would see him through to December 2025, but there has been no official word since then if he signed another extension or the exact date when the former AEW World Champion’s deal is up.
If his contract does expire in December, that would mean he would be a free agent by January 2026, just in time to be a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble, which is set to take place on January 31, 2026, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
