Two championship matches were confirmed for NXT Great American Bash during this week’s WWE NXT episode.
Naraku earned a shot at the NXT Championship by defeating Mason Rook in a number one contender’s match. The bout took a decisive turn when Kam Hendrix appeared near the closing stages, distracting Rook at a crucial moment. The distraction allowed Naraku to capitalise, planting Rook with an STO before scoring the pinfall victory and punching his ticket to Great American Bash.
Later in the show, Naraku came face-to-face with NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo. The challenger handed D’Angelo a mysterious letter before walking away, adding another layer of intrigue to their upcoming title clash.
The NXT Women’s Championship picture was also finalised as Kendal Grey secured another opportunity at gold. Grey defeated Kelani Jordan in a hard-fought number one contender’s match that featured several submission attempts and near-falls down the stretch. After surviving Jordan’s offence, Grey connected with Shades of Grey to earn the victory.
The win puts Grey back in the title picture after coming up short at Stand & Deliver. Although Lola Vice left that event as champion, Grey was not pinned in the match and has remained determined to earn another opportunity. As a result, Grey will challenge Vice for the NXT Women’s Championship at Great American Bash on June 28.
