A retired WWE legend would have had his final match against AEW’s MJF if he had been able.
At AEW Revolution, MJF defended his World Championship against ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in a Texas Death Match. The bout had added stakes as Page had given his word that, if he lost, he would never challenge for the World Title again.
Friedman channelled his inner-Terry Funk for the bout, wearing the Funker’s trademark striped tights, a cowboy hat, and a poncho to the ring. MJF emerged victorious from the violent bout after hanging Page over the top rope with a chain, choking him out.
One person who noticed the Salt of the Earth’s homage was Funk’s longtime friend and WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. Foley took to social media to give “major props” to the champion for honoring Funk, and also claimed that if he had it in him, he would have had his last match against Friedman.
“MJF HONORS THE FUNKER
Major props to @the_mjf for honoring Terry Funk last weekend at @aew Revolution 2026… True legends never die!
If I had one more match in me, it would have been with MJF. Sadly, it just wasn’t meant to be…”
Friedman had a simple response to for Foley, sending winking face and middle finger emojis to the Hardcore Legend.
Mick Foley Has Parted With WWE Over Donald Trump Ties
Although his is a member of the Hall of Fame and had a lengthy career in the company, Mick Foley walked away from WWE in December. Foley has long been vocal in his opposition to US President Donald Trump and his policies, but it was Trump’s “disgusting” response to the death of Hollywood legend Rob Reiner that was the last straw for the WWE Champion.
He announced that he doesn’t want to represent a company that “coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion,” and will not be renewing his Legends contract when it expires in June 2026.
