A WWE Hall of Famer is preparing to make a surprise return to the ring later this month, ending an absence from in-ring competition lasting more than 11 years.
Road Dogg has been announced for Jeff Jarrett’s All-Star Super Slam on October 22, marking his first official wrestling match since January 2015. The 57-year-old will team with Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal against QT Marshall, Elijah Drago and Brady Booker in a six-man tag team match.
The event will take place at Veterans Park in Hendersonville, Tennessee, as part of the Hendersonville Pig Fest, celebrating Jarrett’s 40th anniversary in professional wrestling. Road Dogg’s last official match took place at the 2015 Royal Rumble, where he reunited with Billy Gunn as the New Age Outlaws.
The former WWE Tag Team Champions faced The Ascension at the event and lost to Konnor and Viktor in a match that lasted less than six minutes.
WWE Hall Of Famer Road Dogg’s Return Comes After Billy Gunn’s Comments
The announcement is particularly surprising after Billy Gunn made comments earlier this year about the possibility of the New Age Outlaws wrestling together again. Gunn dismissed the prospect of another run for the legendary tag team, suggesting that the physical toll of Road Dogg’s lengthy wrestling career would make an in-ring return difficult.
However, Road Dogg is now preparing to compete for the first time since January 2015. Although he has not wrestled in more than a decade, the WWE Hall of Famer has remained involved in the professional wrestling industry.
Earlier this year, Road Dogg left his position on WWE’s SmackDown creative team, ending his latest backstage role with the company. He was later spotted backstage at TNA Slammiversary amid reports that discussions were underway about a potential role with the promotion.
Those talks ultimately failed to produce an agreement, leaving Road Dogg’s next move uncertain. His upcoming appearance at All-Star Super Slam will now mark his first official wrestling match in more than 11 years, as he joins Jarrett and Lethal for the six-man tag team main event on October 22.
