A WWE Hall of Famer has raised concerns about the current direction of the company, suggesting the overall product is beginning to feel repetitive.
Eric Bischoff said WWE is suffering from a sense of “sameness” across its programming, pointing to similarities in characters, storylines, and promos. Speaking on D-Von Dudley’s YouTube channel, Bischoff explained that the issue reminds him of concerns he had several years ago.
“I think if there’s a problem with the product… it’s starting to feel flat for the same reasons,” Bischoff said. “There’s just a level of familiarity in each one of the characters and each one of the storylines and each one of the presentations and each one of the promos.”
Despite the criticism, Bischoff was quick to defend Triple H, stating he believes he remains the right person to lead WWE creatively.
“Paul Levesque is absolutely the best choice for that role,” he said, praising his understanding of traditional wrestling psychology and presentation.
Bischoff did note that certain performers continue to stand out, singling out CM Punk as a consistent highlight.
“When he grabs a mic, something fun is going to happen. You don’t want to miss that,” Bischoff said.
He also referenced Becky Lynch as another talent who stands out, but maintained that the overall product lacks variety.
Eric Bischoff Believes WWE Needs More Diversity In Story Types To Re-Engage Fans
Eric Bischoff concluded that WWE needs to introduce more diversity in its storytelling and character work to break away from the growing sense of repetition.
“There needs to be more diversity in the types of stories they’re telling, in the types of characters,” he said. “They have to get that sense of something fresh and new.”
