A WWE Hall of Famer believes the company could be doing more with Charlotte Flair despite her status as one of the company’s biggest stars.
Speaking on Grilling JR, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross discussed wrestlers who follow in the footsteps of famous family members after Triple H recently explained on WWE Unreal that Bron Breakker‘s challenge is to become more than “just the next Steiner.”
Ross agreed that performers need to establish their own identities rather than simply replicate the success of previous generations.
“I agree. I agree. It’s not a copycat league, so to speak. You want some origin things that are original. The originality of your character is important as hell, and how you develop that, and how you brought it along over time, and it gives the audience something new to celebrate and to look at. So yeah, I think that’s the way to do it. You got to keep reinventing until you get this s**t down, and that’s a lot easier said than done.”
When asked about Charlotte Flair embracing many of Ric Flair‘s trademarks throughout her career, Ross said there is no single formula for success, insisting performers have to believe in the character they are portraying.
“Really, it’s on how it feels. How does it capture you? How does it feel? And if you don’t feel it, it’s not going to work. You got to feel what you’re selling and what you’re developing. You got to feel it yourself.”
Jim Ross Believes Charlotte Flair Is Being Underutilised In Her Current WWE Role
Jim Ross then turned his attention to Charlotte Flair’s current WWE run, suggesting she has not been utilised to her full potential.
“Charlotte’s probably been underbooked, in my opinion. Largely, she’s very over, but I just think that they could probably do a little bit more with her, quite frankly.”
He added that wrestlers need to fully commit to their characters while also receiving support from the company.
“You gotta live the life, man. You gotta go all in, and if you go all in, sometimes good things happen, and they happen more often than not. But you got to go all in, and you got to get the company that’s going to be behind you.”
Charlotte Flair is currently involved in a rivalry with Jade Cargill ahead of SummerSlam. The 14-time women’s champion is set to be involved in a five-way ladder match to determine the interim WWE Women’s Champion at the event.
