A WWE Hall of Famer has branded The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns as “the most overrated main eventer.”
Former WCW President Eric Bischoff has agreed with a controversial claim from Conrad Thompson that Roman Reigns is “the most overrated main eventer in WWE history.” The comments came during an episode of 83 Weeks as Bischoff reflected on Reigns’ successful World Heavyweight Championship defence against Seth Rollins in the main event of SummerSlam Night Two.
While Bischoff praised the quality of the match, he admitted it failed to capture his interest.
“It wasn’t a bad match. It was a good match. It was a great match in some respects, but it didn’t do much for me. I’m just kind of over it. It doesn’t feel compelling in any way.”
Bischoff said he feels the rivalry has become too familiar and believes WWE needs to introduce something fresh to keep him invested.
“Unless they come up with a reason to make it feel unique and compelling, I just don’t care about it. Hopefully, they can make me care.”
Thompson then offered a far stronger opinion, describing Reigns as:
“Probably the most overrated main eventer in WWE history.”
He argued WWE spent years pushing Reigns as its top star despite never feeling fans had embraced him in the same way they had previous leading names. Thompson also questioned whether Reigns’ absence would have any significant impact on WWE’s business and claimed the Tribal Chief’s character became far more compelling once Paul Heyman joined him during The Bloodline storyline.
Eric Bischoff Agreed With Conrad Thompson’s Assessment Of Roman Reigns
Eric Bischoff responded simply:
“I agree.”
The WWE Hall of Famer went on to explain that he does not automatically defend WWE simply because the company is successful.
“People think that I support everything WWE, which is clearly not the case. I give an honest opinion and I look at things from a business perspective.”
Although Bischoff did not expand further on Thompson’s criticism of Roman Reigns, he later shifted the discussion towards The Bloodline, warning that WWE risks making the same mistake WCW made by allowing the storyline to continue for too long without a fresh direction.
Reigns has held the World Heavyweight Championship since defeating CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 in April and retained the title against Rollins in the SummerSlam main event.
