A WWE Hall of Famer is believed to have suffered a legitimate injury on Monday’s episode of WWE Raw.
According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, Rey Mysterio was genuinely hurt during his match with Austin Theory. Although Mysterio was able to finish the bout, he did not take part in the post-match angle involving The Vision, which saw Dragon Lee and Penta laid out.
Instead, Mysterio remained on the ring apron, clutching his shoulder as medical staff checked on him, with the referee raising the “X” sign to indicate a possible injury. The broadcast quickly cut away to a promo from Natalya as Mysterio was assisted to the back.
When Did Rey Mysterio Return From His Last Injury?
The timing is particularly concerning, as Rey Mysterio only recently returned from a groin injury in November and had resumed his long-running rivalry with Dominik Mysterio. In recent weeks, he has aligned himself with Penta and Dragon Lee in a programme against The Vision. Earlier in the night, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce reinstated Bron Breakker and placed all members of the group into the Royal Rumble, before booking the Mysterio–Theory rematch on the spot.
The situation follows another recent in-ring scare on Raw. Last week’s match between Je’Von Evans and El Grande Americano was stopped after Evans appeared to be injured. Evans later confirmed he was fine and went on to declare himself for Saturday’s Royal Rumble.
Neither WWE nor Rey Mysterio have provided an update on the apparent injury on last night’s show.
