A WWE Hall of Famer has made it clear that they would welcome a return to WWE television, but ideally under the leadership of Vince McMahon.
Speaking with TMZ Sports (quotes courtesy of f4wonline.com), Teddy Long discussed his current WWE Legends contract and the possibility of making future appearances for the company. While he stressed that he would report for duty if WWE called, he admitted he would prefer doing so with Vince McMahon involved.
“I think what we got to do, we got to get Vince back so we can do this thing right and get the fans back on board,” Long said.
The former SmackDown General Manager was also asked whether he believes the door has closed on a potential McMahon return to WWE.
“I don’t think the chapter has ever closed with him,” Long responded.
Long went on to reflect on his experiences travelling with McMahon during their years together in WWE, describing wrestling as the former chairman’s lifelong passion.
“This was his life,” Long said. “He loved this.”
According to Long, one flight in particular stood out because McMahon spent the entire journey discussing the wrestling business.
“As soon as we took off, he talked about wrestling until we landed,” Long recalled.
Long also reiterated that he remains under a WWE Legends deal and would be willing to return if the company requested it.
“If they call me, I have to go to work,” he said. “I’ll do what I’m told.”
However, Long again emphasised that his preference would be for any return to happen while McMahon was involved with the company.
“If I had to go back, I wish it would be under the whims of Vince McMahon.”
Teddy Long Discussed Attending Vince McMahon’s 80th Birthday Party
Elsewhere in the interview, Teddy Long discussed attending Vince McMahon’s 80th birthday celebration and showed off a statue of McMahon’s head that he received there.
McMahon has not been involved with WWE since stepping away from the company amid legal and corporate controversies. Despite that, Long’s comments make it clear that he still views the former WWE chairman as one of the most influential figures in the history of professional wrestling.
