A WWE Hall of Famer has called on the company to make Cody Rhodes become a heel.
Eric Bischoff believes WWE should consider a major shake-up as the company heads into Clash in Italy tomorrow, with Cody Rhodes at the center. Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff argued that Rhodes should turn heel, saying the current WWE product has become too predictable and needs a refresh despite its ongoing business success.
“I’d turn Cody heel,” Bischoff said. “I need to hit the refresh button here. It’s great and all, but it’s been great and all for a long time. I need something that’s a little different.”
Rhodes is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther at Clash in Italy on May 31 in Turin. While Bischoff acknowledged WWE continues to perform strongly from a business standpoint, he argued that the company’s television product has become stagnant.
“WWE has kind of reached a flat line,” Bischoff said. “That doesn’t mean it’s dead, that just means it’s kind of cruising along, doing the same old stuff every week. That’s not good TV. Good TV grows.”
Eric Bischoff Believes A Cody Rhodes Heel Turn Could Keep WWE’s Product Fresh Heading Into The Summer Months
The former WCW executive suggested WWE has an opportunity to build momentum heading into the summer months by introducing fresh storylines and character developments. Eric Bischoff specifically pointed to Cody Rhodes as someone he would like to see presented differently, saying a heel turn could provide a new layer to one of WWE’s top stars.
Elsewhere, Bischoff also discussed the upcoming Tribal Combat match between Roman Reigns and Jacob Fatu. While he did not make a prediction, Bischoff said his instinct would be to protect Reigns and suggested the timing may not be right for a major loss.
