A WWE Hall of Famer believes a singles match between The Rock and Cody Rhodes will eventually happen.
The two stars have been involved in major storylines together in recent years, but have yet to meet one-on-one. Diamond Dallas Page believes their history and respective positions in WWE make another chapter between them likely.
Speaking with The Sun, DDP reflected on Cody Rhodes’ journey to the top of WWE, including his first opportunity to defeat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 39. Page, who has known and mentored Rhodes since he was 12, recalled advising him not to worry too much about potentially losing to Reigns.
“A lot of people were in his ear. And I was just like ‘bro, is it really that big a deal if you don’t go over this time?’ And he goes, ‘I knew you were gonna say that,’ and he said, ‘But what if we lose momentum?’ I said, ‘What if you don’t?’ And that’s what happened,” DDP said.
Rhodes ultimately lost to Reigns at WrestleMania 39, but remained one of WWE’s most popular stars. One year later, he returned to the WrestleMania main event and finally defeated Reigns to finish his story.
The Rock became a major part of the build to WrestleMania XL after initially appearing to be heading towards a match against Reigns. However, fan support for Rhodes led him to retain his WrestleMania opportunity, while Rock aligned himself with Reigns and The Bloodline.
“It went off a little bit, and then it looked like Rock might take that spot, and then that’s where the fans really stepped up,” DDP said.
DDP Expects The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes To Happen
The Rock and Cody Rhodes eventually shared the ring at WrestleMania XL Night 1, teaming with Reigns and Seth Rollins respectively. Rock and Reigns won the tag team main event, with The Rock pinning Rhodes following a People’s Elbow. Rhodes then defeated Reigns the following night to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Their issues were not over, however. Rock confronted Rhodes on Raw following WrestleMania and indicated that the two would eventually cross paths again. Their storyline resurfaced in 2025, when Rock attempted to convince Rhodes to “sell his soul” to him.
Despite their repeated interactions, WWE has yet to book The Rock and Rhodes in a singles match. DDP believes that could eventually change, pointing to Rock’s business instincts and the unfinished history between the two.
“The Rock is one of the smartest businessmen in the world. He’s worth close to a billion dollars,” DDP said. “Yeah, I think it’ll eventually see something come back around that.”
While no match between The Rock and Cody Rhodes has been announced, Page believes WWE will eventually revisit the rivalry and bring the two stars together for a one-on-one encounter.
