A WWE Hall of Famer sees big things on the horizon for Oba Femi.
On January 6th, at New Year’s Evil, Oba Femi defeated Leon Slater to retain the NXT Championship. Following the bout, Femi left the title belt in the ring, signalling that he had vacated the championship.
The star is reportedly now moving to the main WWE roster full-time, and Hall of Famer Booker T believes his vacating the NXT Title instead of losing it allows the company to bring him up “white hot.”
“No, I’m not surprised at all. Just because you got to know how to build your stars. You got to really put those guys in position these days to succeed and succeed properly. And a guy like Oba Femi, you don’t want to drop the ball with a guy like that. You want to bring him in, and you want to bring him white hot. And I think that’s what they’re going to do.”
Booker T Sees A Lot Of Potential In Oba Femi
The NXT commentator sees a bright future for Femi and thinks he has the potential to go on an undefeated streak similar to Goldberg’s in WCW. Goldberg was undefeated for months, capturing the United States and WCW Championships before his infamous loss to Kevin Nash (with a little help from Scott Hall and a taser).
“I think Oba Femi has the potential to go on one of those somewhat Goldberg runs….He’s unbeatable until he gets to that one guy, this guy that could, you know, get his first title shot and actually win it, you know, once you get on the main roster.”
“So I’m looking forward to seeing exactly what Oba does… I think with someone like Oba, you just got to make sure you put them in position to succeed, and I think that’s what they’re doing. I think they’re doing a really, really good job with them.”
With Oba Femi vacating the NXT Championship on his way out of the developmental brand, NXT GM Ava has announced that the new champion will be crowned in a Six-Man Ladder Match on February 3rd.
