A major WrestleMania 42 match just got even more crowded, with a surprise addition of a WWE Hall of Famer changing the landscape of an already high-risk bout.
Rey Mysterio was officially added to the Intercontinental Championship ladder match on the April 6, 2026, episode of WWE Raw, inserting himself into the contest after speaking with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce.
The moment came after Penta, Dragon Lee and Je’Von Evans picked up a win over Los Americanos, with Evans securing the victory. As the trio celebrated, Mysterio made his return and addressed the group.
Switching between English and Spanish, Mysterio praised Penta’s Intercontinental Championship reign and suggested their upcoming match could be one of the greatest ladder matches in WrestleMania history.
“But last year, I missed WrestleMania due to an injury,” Mysterio said. “This year, I just spoke to Adam Pearce, and we both agreed on one thing: This ladder match at WrestleMania is missing one more person. It’s missing Rey Mysterio.”
Penta welcomed the addition, responding with “Let’s make history” before delivering his trademark catchphrase. The match now expands to six competitors, marking a high-stakes return for one of WWE’s most decorated Hall of Famers.
Who Is Now Confirmed For The WWE Intercontinental Title Ladder Match At WrestleMania 42?
Following Rey Mysterio’s addition to the WWE IC Title match at Mania, he joins the likes of defending champion Penta, Je’Von Evans, Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, and Rusev to see who will walk away as champion on April 18 or 19.
