Houthis, an armed political and military movement based in Yemen and backed by Iran, has claimed responsibility for an attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport yesterday, Twelve people were killed and more than 300 injured shutting down the airport.
The Houthis have also warned airlines and passengers against using Saudi airports and airspace. They are “potential targets and sites for operations by our forces”, stated the group in a statement to the media.
Due to the attack yesterday, the State Department in the USA has cited the risk of Iranian and Houthi drone and missile attacks, armed conflict and terrorism. It also warns that attacks can target airports, transport hubs and entertainment venues. U.S. government employees need special authorization to use Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.
Also the Canadian government has now specifically advised its citizens to avoid all travel to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh because ongoing military activity is disrupting airport operations. It warns that Saudi airspace and airports can close at short notice.
Houthis, whose official name is Ansar Allah, (Supporters of God) controls Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and large parts of the country’s northwest. Canada and the United States have designated them a terrorist organization.
WWE has not publicly commented on yesterday’s events and if they have changed their Crown Jewel plans.
