It has been reported that WWE has discussed the idea of doing a double turn, akin to Bret Hart and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13, for WrestleMania 42.
WWE has reportedly discussed a potential double turn for the United States Championship match between Sami Zayn and Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42. According to BodySlam+, the idea has been explored in response to shifting crowd reactions in recent weeks. Zayn, currently positioned as a babyface, has begun receiving a mixed response, while Williams, despite being cast as a heel, has been drawing increasingly positive reactions from audiences.
The report notes that WWE has already considered turning Williams babyface in recent months, following his rapid rise in popularity since moving to the main roster from NXT earlier in 2026.
A double turn would not be without precedent in WWE, with the most notable example coming at WrestleMania 13 in 1997, when Bret Hart and Steve Austin famously reversed roles during their match. That bout was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2025.
What Day Will Sami Zayn & Trick Williams Face Each Other For The WWE US Title At WrestleMania 42
The United States Championship match between Sami Zayn and Trick Williams is currently scheduled for Night Two of WrestleMania 42, set to take place on April 18 and April 19, 2026, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
