The WWE Women’s Speed Championship will be retired at NXT Heat Wave.
On this week’s edition of NXT, current champion Wren Sinclair faced off against NXT Women’s North American Champion Zaria for her title. The match was disrupted by Dion Lennox, the rest of Dark State and Saquon Shugars who brawled into the ring.
Wren took matters into her own hands drop kicking James Cutler out of the ring. Zaria took advantage of the distraction to pin Wren with an F5.
Later on in the show, Wren complained bitterly to NXT GM Robert Stone that she deserved a rematch after everything that happened. Stone wasn’t convinced until Wren offered to sweeten the deal by proposing that the match between her and Zaria should be a title unification match. Stone agreed.
The men and women’s Speed Championship were launched in 2024 and originally defended exclusively on the X platform. Speed matches had a five-minute time limit.
Candice LeRae beat Iyo Sky to become the first-ever champion.
When the entire X campaign was axed the titles were moved to NXT.
NXT Heat Wave takes place on August 30th.
The matches announced thus far are:
- Tony D’Angelo (c) vs. Cruz Montana or Grayson Waller – NXT Championship Match
- Kendal Grey (c) vs. Kelani Jordan – NXT Women’s Championship Match
- Zaria (North American) vs. Wren Sinclair (Speed) – Unification match for both the NXT Women’s North American Championship and the WWE Women’s Speed Championship
