A newly crowned WWE champion has revealed they are continuing to compete despite dealing with a serious injury.
That champion is Penta, who captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the March 2 episode of Monday Night Raw in Indianapolis by defeating Dominik Mysterio. The victory marked Penta’s first championship since arriving in WWE and capped off a journey that he says took two decades of work and sacrifice.
Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Penta reflected on the moment and the long road that led to his title win.
“Man, the first thing was crazy,” Penta said. “But at the same time, I feel like the emotion fixes it because it’s so very special for me. The most important thing, I want to say thank you. Thank you to my family, thank you to my friends, thank you to my company and thank you to everyone who believed in me.”
Penta explained that the championship represents far more than a personal achievement.
“This is like 20 years, the hard work, 20 years of sacrifice,” he continued. “But now this title represents all those people who never give up. Penta represents the dreamers. Penta represents the fighters.”
Penta Still Wrestling In WWE Despite Suffering From A Torn Bicep
While celebrating the milestone, Penta also revealed that he has been wrestling despite a torn bicep.
The injury is not a recent development. Penta previously disclosed in February 2025 that he had been competing with the torn bicep for several years. He explained that the issue originated from an earlier incident that damaged the tendon connecting his shoulder and bicep.
“This injury was maybe four or five years ago,” Penta said. “I don’t remember who gave me the kick, but it was one kick in my chest and basically he broke my tendon from the shoulder to the bicep.”
The high-flying star also dealt with a shoulder injury that sidelined him briefly in late 2025, though he indicated that the current focus remains on continuing his championship run. When asked how his shoulder feels now, Penta made it clear that winning the Intercontinental Championship has changed his perspective.
“Now, no matter,” he said. “I’m glad because the gold is on my shoulder, brother. The gold is in Mexico right now. No matter what happens with my body, I don’t care. This is the most important.”
Penta emphasised that the title victory belongs to the fans and supporters who followed his career from Mexico to WWE.
“This title is not just for Penta,” he said. “It’s for all those people.”
Despite the injury, the new Intercontinental Champion has no plans to step away from competition as he prepares for his first televised title defences in WWE.
