WWE has purchased the Mexican wrestling promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.
“WWE is announcing the acquisition of the Mexican Lucha Libre promotion, AAA,” announced Michael Cole on the Countdown to WrestleMania broadcast.
At the table with him were NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer, Santos Escobar, Raul Mendoza, Joaquin Wilde, Andrade, El Hijo del Vikingo, Penta, Rey Fenix, Rey Mysterio and a host of others including AAA GM Dorian Roldan Pena, AAA president Marisela Pena, Fillip co-founder Alberto Fasja Cohen and HHH, himself.
Pena called the acquisition a “new chapter” in the promotion’s history and he was really proud of the new partnership that has been forged. Alberto Fasja Cohen said it “an amazing thing for years to come”.
“What you have created is spectacular. We have nothing but respect for what you have created. We have nothing but respect for lucha libre,” said HHH stating WWE will take AAA to “another level”.
The WWE also announced that Worlds Collide will be coming back this year.
“Taking Lucha Libre higher, faster and farther. together. The future flies here,” said Rey Mysterio in a promo.
The show will air live on June 7th from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles and feature NXT, AAA and WWE superstars.
