Ahead of his last match tonight, the WWE and the Make-A-Wish Foundation have honoured John Cena for his dedication to the charity.
Thus far, John Cena holds the Guiness World Record for the most granted wishes at 650. Cena’s tag team with Make-A-Wish began in 2002. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps fulfill the wishes of children who have been diagnosed with a critical illness.
In a video tribute, Leslie Motter, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish, said: “His courage, resilience and positivity are true motivators for so many of our wish kids.”
One mother in the video chimed in saying: “My kid has a rare form of epilepsy and it’s called Lennox-Gastaut. It affects everything. Mentally, his age is still 4-5 years old. The fact that I can lose him to this scares me and it makes this hard but he just lights up when he sees John Cena and it makes me happy. That’s all I want for him, to be happy.”
The Guinness World Records stated publicly that Cena’s effort has been “herculean” and that he is the most requested celebrity.
“No one else has ever granted more than 400 wishes in the 42-year existence of Make-A-Wish,” stated the foundation.
“I will drop what I’m doing and be involved because I think that’s the coolest thing,” Cena told Reuters in 2015. “If I can offer a fantastic experience, I’ll be first in line to do my part.”
