2K has provided more details and footage about the new match types and weapons in WWE 2K26.
The match types are familiar to most wrestling fans so they don’t need too much of an explanation:
Dumpster Match
You defeat your opponent by beating them down, heaving them into a dumpster and closing the lid. It seems to work much like the Ambulance Match currently does.
‘I Quit’ Match
Inflict enough punishment on your opponent until they utter the words ‘I Quit’. The “quitting” function seems to rely on a Quick Time Event or mini-game, much like how a submission works already.
Three Stages of Hell
A best two out of three, four series featuring three different match types that you decide on. You can pick from Normal, Extreme Rules, Inferno, I Quit, Dumpster, Hell In A Cell, Steel Cage, Table, Ladder, TLC, Casket or Ambulance match for the three stages.
Inferno Match
Fire surrounds the ring and your goal is to…set your foe on fire. This match type is making a return. It was in WWE 2K14 but hasn’t been featured in any of the other games. It appears that the flames get higher as the match continues on.
Gameplay Fixes
Fewer “invisible barriers” leading to much more natural and painful collisions.
Prop Interactions
Grocery Cart
You can use a grocery to beat your foe down and even deposit them into it, whip them into, hit them with weapons when they are stuck in it. You can even push them around in it
Thumbtacks
Beat your opponent with the bag or dump them on the mat, slam your opponent onto them.
Tables
They have brought back the ability to stack them so you can send your opponent through them.
Belts
In a championship match, you can take the belt off the pedestal and use it on your opponent.
Barricade and Crowd Battles
You can fight your opponent on the actual barricades, using strikes and grapples and leap off the barricades.
Surprise Attacks
There are certain “triggers” in the environments now that will spark a surprise attack, ambushes.
Start-Off Match Actions
You can pose for the crowd, offer a handshake, engage in chain wrestling, a slugfest or rush your opponent before the bell.
AI Sequences
Can be included to make a superstar act and wrestle more like they would in the real world.
Rivalries
Extended into Play Now and Exhibition modes. With this enabled, your matches will have lasting consequences. Relationships will influence what happens and you’ll see Universe style cut scenes occurring based on your actions.
New Commentary Teams
You’ve got Michael Cole, Booker T, Corey Graves and Wade Barrett.
Interactive Entrances
They are not just automated. You can trigger your own pyro, play to the crowd, etc.
Four editions of WWE 2K26 are available for pre-order now. King of Kings Edition, Attitude Era Edition and Monday Night War Edition are scheduled for worldwide release on Friday, March 6, 2026, seven days prior to the Standard Edition, which will be available Friday, March 13, 2026.
