WWE 2K26 is just weeks away from release, and new details have emerged about one of the game’s most popular modes, giving players a clearer idea of what to expect from this year’s storyline.
MyRise returns in WWE 2K26 as the franchise’s career-style experience, allowing players to guide a created Superstar through a scripted journey toward the top of WWE. In a new interview with TechRadar Gaming, MyRise lead narrative designer Sean Conaway outlined the direction of this year’s campaign, titled “The Comeback.”
According to Conaway, the core structure of the story will remain largely the same regardless of whether players choose a male or female Superstar. The story centres around a wrestler returning to WWE after a lengthy absence, a concept inspired by the increasing number of comeback stories seen on WWE television in recent years.
Players will control a character known as “The Archetype,” who quickly finds themselves in conflict with Paul Heyman. Depending on the gender chosen for the player’s character, Heyman’s featured client will either be Bron Breakker or Jordynne Grace.
Conaway noted that while Heyman and Breakker are currently aligned on WWE television, the pairing was conceived by the game’s creative team long before it happened on-screen due to the long development cycle.
“We work so far ahead from WWE that we kind of have to look in our crystal balls and try to forecast as best as we can who we think is going to be hot a year from now,” Conaway said.
Jordynne Grace’s Heel Turn In WWE 2K26
The interview also addressed the decision to portray Jordynne Grace as a villain in the mode, despite her not taking on that role in WWE programming so far. According to the developers, the choice was made because the team sees significant potential in Grace as a key character.
Although players will follow the same overall storyline regardless of gender, Conaway explained that choices made throughout the mode and the divisions players compete in will create meaningful differences in how the experience unfolds.
He also acknowledged complaints from players who felt fatigued by having to replay WWE 2K25’s MyRise multiple times to unlock all available content, confirming that this year’s version has been designed with that feedback in mind.
WWE 2K26 is scheduled for release on March 13, with the Monday Night War and Attitude Era editions of the game releasing on early access on March 6.
