A wrestling legend made their long-awaited return to AEW on last night’s episode of Dynamite.
Taz made his return to the commentary desk on Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, calling the action from Orlando, Florida, alongside Tony Schiavone and Excalibur. The 58-year-old had been away from AEW television following a series of health setbacks. Taz underwent successful shoulder surgery last October, which came after a total knee replacement surgery in 2024. The knee procedure kept him sidelined for an extended period, including missing AEW’s UK tour last year due to concerns over long-haul travel.
During his absence, former AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson filled in on commentary for Dynamite broadcasts. With Taz now back at the desk, it remains unclear what Danielson’s role will be going forward.
Taz has been a fixture in All Elite Wrestling since the company’s early days in 2019, becoming one of its most recognisable voices on commentary. Last summer, he was inducted into the 2300 Arena’s Hardcore Hall of Fame in a surprise moment that recognised his influence on wrestling, especially in the 2300 Arena during his ECW days.
Away from the announce table, Taz’s legacy continues through his son Hook, who has been under an AEW contract since late 2021 and signed a new multi-year deal with the company in 2024.
What Else Happened On Last Night’s AEW Dynamite?
Besides the return of Taz, last night’s Dynamite saw the debut of Bishop Dyer in a dark match. On the main show, there were three singles bouts and three tag matches, as the likes of Swerve Strickland defeated Kevin Knight, FTR defeated Alec Price and Jordan Oliver, and Samoa Joe defeated Mike Bailey.
Saturday’s Collision was also taped following Dynamite, after the show that was supposed to air live from the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas, was cancelled due to a snowstorm expected to hit the area over the weekend.
