AJ Lee retained the Women’s Intercontinental Championship on WWE Raw, but the aftermath may have set the stage for her next major defence at WrestleMania 42.
AJ Lee defeated Bayley via submission, forcing her to tap out to the Black Widow in a competitive title match on last night’s episode of Raw. Moments after the victory, Becky Lynch launched a post-match assault, signalling her intent to reclaim the championship ahead of WrestleMania 42.
The match saw both competitors trade control throughout. Bayley applied sustained offence with a cutter in the ropes, a suplex, and strikes in the corner, while Lee responded with clotheslines, a spinning heel kick, and an Asai DDT for a near fall. Bayley locked in a Maple Leaf and followed with a running knee, before adding a belly-to-belly suplex for another close count.
Lee countered late momentum with a back heel kick and Shining Wizard, but Bayley avoided an initial Black Widow attempt and connected with a side slam. Bayley climbed to the top rope for an elbow drop, but missed, allowing Lee to lock in the Black Widow for a second time. Bayley tapped out to give Lee the victory.
After the match, Lee showed respect by offering a handshake, which Bayley accepted before the two shared an embrace. Lee raised Bayley’s hand before Bayley exited the ring.
Becky Lynch Launches An Assault On AJ Lee To Set Up Women’s IC Title Match At WrestleMania 42
With her back turned while celebrating at ringside, AJ Lee was attacked by Becky Lynch. Lynch drove Lee into the LED board, threw her to the floor, and struck her repeatedly, including sending her into the ringside barricade. Officials briefly escorted Lynch away, but she returned to deliver another blow, striking Lee in the face with the Women’s Intercontinental Championship belt.
Lynch lost the title to Lee at Elimination Chamber in Chicago last month, where Lee submitted her with the Black Widow in her hometown. The victory marked Lee’s first championship in WWE since 2014, following her return after an 11-year absence.
Monday’s attack indicates Lynch is seeking a rematch, with a potential title bout at WrestleMania 42 now firmly in focus.
