A long-running rivalry is set to reach its breaking point on WWE’s biggest stage, with a major title match now official for WrestleMania 42.
Becky Lynch and AJ Lee will clash for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship after a heated confrontation on the March 23 episode of WWE Raw. The segment saw both women exchange sharp words, further intensifying a feud that has been building since last autumn.
Lynch opened by criticising the fans, suggesting they had grown tired of her success despite her efforts to elevate the division. She pointed to her role in raising the profile of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and took aim at Lee’s legacy.
“Well, I murdered the Divas era,” Lynch declared.
Lee responded by making her way to the ring, prompting Lynch to retreat into the crowd before things could turn physical. The champion then addressed Lynch directly, making it clear she was ready to settle matters once and for all.
“I figured you wanted to get embarrassed again.”
Lee said, before challenging Lynch to a WrestleMania 42 match with the title on the line. She added that she intends to make Lynch submit on the biggest stage. Lynch fired back from the crowd, claiming Lee had “fallen right into her trap.” She referenced Lee’s departure from WWE following WrestleMania 31, suggesting history could repeat itself.
“Eleven years ago, you walked into the office the day after WrestleMania and handed in your resignation,” Lynch said. “At WrestleMania, I’ll save you the trouble by ending you.”
Becky Lynch & AJ Lee’s Rivalry Heading Into WrestleMania 42
The rivalry between the two has been one-sided in recent months, with AJ Lee holding the advantage in their biggest encounters. Most notably, she defeated Becky Lynch at Elimination Chamber to capture the Women’s Intercontinental Championship for the first time.
Their latest confrontation now sets the stage for a high-profile rematch at WrestleMania 42, where both pride and championship gold will be at stake.
