Kevin Owens must be seething with anger after Sami Zayn stomped his chances at becoming the new Undisputed Champion. He didn’t want his return to Ottawa to be as it is now. He wanted to win that title in front of his medically cleared mother, who couldn’t travel as easily as before, and that moment was destroyed.
Given the amount of names drops being made, CM Punk marched his way to the ring to inform Owens that he didn’t need Zayn’s help. Things were starting to become flammable already, but Gunther poured another ten containers of kerosene onto the problem. Gunther believed that the reason behind Owens and Punk’s hatred towards the other is because they see they’re “arrogant, obnoxious, opinionated” selves.
Let’s add ten more of those containers with the arrival of Finn Balor. This whole grunt fest needed to stop as Balor redirects everyone’s attention to the main point, he deserved his title shot since Owens has had his time. Plus no one present has beaten him yet. I’m not sure about Gunther, though. Nick Aldis made the decision to have Balor, Owens, and Gunther face each other in a Triple Treat number one contender’s match.
Stratton and Green were up against the Irresistible Forces, Nia Jax and Lash Legend. Chelsea was wearing that protective mask that Corey Graves funnily wondered if it came from Carmela’s collection, his wife. I don’t think this match was a great idea since Jax delivered a headbutt to Green that may have re-broken her orbital bone since her wiggling around seemed to indicate something awful had happened.
Clearly, Green was in dire straits, but she didn’t care as she rushed back to tag herself in and jump Nia. She was running on adrenaline. Stratton tried to take out Legend, yet she was slammed into the barricades. None of this defiance mattered since Chelsea lost to the Annihilator.
After being abandoned by the Bella twins, Paige was out here alone trying to beat Jacy Jayne in a Women’s US Championship match. Bad news, she had to deal with the rest of Fatal Influence from the outside. It’s mainly due to them that Paige was rolled and compressed into a pin, where she lost. Coming the aftermath, Paige was ambushed by Nikki Bella.
You know, the removal and unbuckling of clothing seem completely unnecessary due to the fact that the verbal spat that Randy Orton is launching at Cody’s face is ALL pretext that he doesn’t have to fall for. The mention of the presumably dead dog, the “trailer trash” mother bit. Pretext. But don’t listen to me… Orton wanted to get punched, summoning his inner Joker, the Heath Ledger version. The best version. Anyway, they showed incredible levels of restrain, so my wish was granted.
Tatum Paxley demonstrated amazing flexibility when she dodged Michin on a number of occasions, however, Michin was just as brutal with that kick when Paxley fell to the outside. Once again, Michin struck Tatum very harshly that I got whiplash just witnessing that. Tatum did impress with a rolling kick, plus a finishing Cemetery Drive on her debut match. Remember: Michin asked for this. Ha!
Finn Balor vs. Kevin Owens vs. Gunther – Triple Treat Number One Contender’s match
Balor was still doing his entrance when he got struck on the head by Gunther as the bell sound off. Obviously, that didn’t matter as Owens and the Ring General get things started. Balor was on the floor somewhere. A big boot stunned Owens as Finn returned into the ring to attempt a pin.
Kevin scrambled to the top after delivering a kick to Balor. A Swanton to Gunther almost pinned the man if Finn hadn’t intervened. Since this is a Triple Treat match, just as Balor was covering Gunther, Sami appeared out of nowhere, and dragged Finn out by the ankle. Not only that, he dropped Dan Engler, the referee, for doing his job.
Owens, again, had the match won after that Stunner to Gunther. Another referee ran to the ring, and Sami took him out, too. Naturally, CM Punk came out to strangle Sami. He managed to avoid being smashed with the title belt by rolling inside the ring. Owens had him in his sights and knocked Punk’s lights out. Zayn retrieved the title, and slammed Owens with it. Same as last week.
Finn and Gunther also got their do as Sami laid waste to everybody.
