Brock Lesnar’s apparent retirement moment at WrestleMania 42 has sparked speculation, with former WWE head writer Vince Russo suggesting the decision may have come down to creative plans Lesnar did not agree with.
Brock Lesnar appeared to step away from in-ring competition after losing to Oba Femi on Night Two, leaving his gloves and boots in the ring in a moment many interpreted as a retirement. The timing surprised many, as reports had previously indicated Lesnar’s final match was expected to take place later in 2026, potentially at SummerSlam against Gunther.
Speaking on his podcast, Vince Russo suggested Lesnar may have chosen to leave on his own terms rather than follow those reported plans.
“We had heard a lot of talk about the retirement match being at SummerSlam,” Russo said. “Maybe Brock was aware of that, and maybe he didn’t like those plans. So Brock said, ‘I’m going to do things my way.’ Maybe putting Oba Femi over was the way he wanted to go.”
Brock Lesnar’s Future Unclear Despite Apparent WrestleMania Retirement
Reports have also indicated that the Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi match was originally planned as the start of a longer programme rather than a one-off bout. Despite the speculation, Lesnar has not confirmed whether his WrestleMania appearance marked his official retirement, leaving his in-ring future unclear.
